Why so angry this year

Message boards are a cess pool and being a fan was much more fun when they weren't around. But it's not like I can blame anyone for being on them since I think they are awful and here I am.

But my main question is why is there so much anger this year? The absolute hatred towards the team and the coaches is sickening. We were picked to finish 6th. We finished 5th. Like plenty of good teams we lost in the first round of the tournament. It happens.

The argument that a lot will make is that this team is a lot more talented than the season indicated. That could be true. But I tend to think that was very talented but also had limitations. And when you have specific limitations, you lose games.

It will be a cold day in hell when I will be disappointing in a 23 win season, with a Big 12 tourney championship, and an NCAA bid. Was it the best thing ever? Of course not. But was it a good season? Yes. And, as a fan, I am allowed to think that. I expect the coaches and players are disappointed and will work to fix what happened. I think a lot of you seem to think that success is measured only as "the greatest season that ever was" or "the worst of the worst, they did nothing right". It's not a binary thing. It's a good season with plenty of great things that happened and plenty of bad things that happened (and two really ******* awful things!).

I hope that Prohm is our coach next year. But one could hardly blame him for leaving because I bet a large portion of you idiots are tweeting and emailing him that same ******** that you are spewing on here and the Iowa State basketball facebook page.

If you are one of the fans that is so ******* angry that they think we should change coaches, then I invite you to go be a Nebraska fan or a SDSU fan or an Iowa fan. Why subject yourself to be as miserable as you apparently are?

I'm more disappointed than I am angry.

I had a bad feeling going into last night's game, to be honest. There is always an 11 over 6 upset in the tournament. Always. I believe they're actually more frequent than the 12 over 5 upsets everyone always talks about. Up until last night all of the 6 seeds won. If nothing else, we were a victim of the Law of Averages.

Like I wrote, I'm more disappointed than anything, but I'm not shocked we lost last night. After UAB in '15, I was downright furious.

Anger about the tourney aside, the season in itself is fine. I think people are just concerned with how this team will play with less talent. We have seen this team end the season middle of the pack, win a B12 tourney and get bounced first round all showing the same problems that plagued them from the beginning. There has been some individual growth by players and some set backs but it’s hard not to question the coaches ability to lead in this league. Talent wise, they vastly underachieved this season. I think it’s legitimate to question why and if we don’t have a team of exceptional players who can make plays on their own, what happens?

If Prohm’s staff (James Kane) thought this was a Sweet Sixteen team in pre-season. They clearly have that much talent. Let’s not pretend they exceeded expectations

Prohms staff did not envision the injuries they had.

Also, I never said they exceeded expectations. I said I’m not disappointed.

Ohio State probably shouldn't have made the tournament - they finished 8-12 in the Big Ten. If anything, they were a very weak 11 seed. Please.

And your point is what exactly?

It took a last-second three pointer by UMBC last year to even make the tournament as a 16 seed and we all know what happened then.

Every single damn NCAA tournament we get told by the talking heads about the teams who don't belong, and every single damn tournament at least one of those teams wins a game.

Ohio State was the 2nd best 11 seed in the field, behind St. Mary's, according to KenPom. All of stat/metric websites gave us around a 66-70% chance to win. While those are decent odds, they are hardly overwhelming.

I much rather would have played the winner of the play-in game, or maybe even Belmont.

We got off to a great start with a short roster. Teams figured us out midway through the year. The trajectory was a disappointment. With a healthy Solo, we MIGHT have been the team we thought we had. You don’t always get what you want. Still a good recovery from ‘17-‘18.

Why so angry? Lots of keyboard warriors who never would talk to someone in person the way they tap out crap on a keyboard. If 90% of the people complaining were held to the standards they expect of our coaching staffs they would be let go from their jobs. I agree it's hard to ignore them though.

I'm in agreement on the anger thing. A lot of people on here are just straight up angry. And it's more than just basketball. Happened in football too. Not sure what the cure to this is because big picture, we have a TON of things going in the right direction in this athletic department. And it starts and ends with the people we have in charge. I, for one, am grateful for who we have leading the AD and the major sports. They aren't perfect and at times deserve criticism, but some of the stuff on here is more than a bit overboard in my opinion.

Disappointing season overall, but not angry. Very talented group who finished 9-9 in the conference after a 7-3 start. Last night was a disappointing loss to not a very good team. Underachieving season as a whole during a peak year. Hopefully we are a tourney team next year. Will be interesting to see who we get to come back.

The tournament is a crap shoot. There are teams every year that get upset. They have they talent to be a sweet sixteen team but things happen.

Virginia had the talent to be a final four team last year and we all know how that ended.

Making a judgment off an arbitrary result from one data point is insanity. And we clearly have a lot of insane “fans” on this board.
