I can't believe I'm going to have to perform every single system update on my computer with W8.1 just to get W10. For whatever reason, that computer locks me off the internet whenever there are system updates that need to be performed. Which means I have no option but to perform them. Really can't wait to be done with 8.1.

I just had to reformat since the win 8.1 update crashed halfway through (Thanks Bill Gates). The Microsoft link above let me upgrade immediately even without being in queue.

Just updateed my Lenovo laptop. Everything seems to be working ok except for Edge. The window pops open briefly then closes. I use Chrome anyways, but I would at least like to try the damn thing.

Reportedly, Edge is faster than Chrome. However still has issues with badly and older webpages.

I'll try it out a bit to see how it goes.

How long did it take you guys to get through Getting updates/Checking for updates? My Win10 update seems to be getting hung up there.

I'm trying to update my surface but somehow I don't have enough memory. I don't get what the hell is using up all the "disk" space. Anybody know how to to what's eating up all my memory on windows 8.1?B

BTW just got done running disk clean-up.

I checked my PC last night and still was just telling me that my copy was reserved. I had about 30 updates ready to so I kicked those off overnight and rebooted this morning. Will check tonight to see if it says that 10 is ready to install or not

I finally got Edge working on my laptop. I had to set the default starting web page to something other than the default "start" page. For someone reason the Edge "start" page made it crash instantly every time. Weird. After trying it out, Chrome runs better, so will probably just stick with that. Although I can't verify that there still isn't something going on with Edge and I'm not getting very good performance because of it.

On the plus side Chrome seems to run a little faster. Overall I like the layout of 10 much more.

Did you get through this issue?

No and I uninstalled everything except for office and I pulled all the documents off it and onto a thumb drive. Still only have about 5 GB of free space and I need 9. I tried hooking it up to my external HD because it's got about 700 gb free on it and that started to work but then it started acting funny and wouldn't stay connected. I might need to skip the upgrade option and go straight to the wipe it clean and start over option.

Try removing your temp files if you haven't done so yet. You need so much space in case the upgrade fails, it will switch back over to Windows 8. Basically it is backing up Windows 8 on your system as a failsafe.

I cleaned the temp files out with the disc clean-up tool unless I'm missing something. Would all the minecraft videos my kids watch on youtube add something to the temp file that missed?

Youtube is pretty good about that now. Unless you have an Add-On in Firefox/Chrome that forces the Youtube to preload everything, it loads as you watch to save on bandwidth and temp files. So I wouldn't think it was that. You might just have too much data at the moment to be honest. I would take some pics/videos/documents/whatever off and put them on that external to free up some space. Upgrade to 10 and then put them back on the Surface if that is what your preferred location is. Also, I would run a disc clean-up after you upgrade. The upgrade leaves some useless files around for some reason.

Here's the thing I went through and pulled all my documents off and put them on an external drive already, office stuff, music and the works. I went through and did that on all 4 accounts; it only got me about 4 gb freed up (started out with less that 1 gb free space). I'm trying to figure out what the hell is using up all that disk space.

My laptop is still saying this too even though it is completely up-to-date. Actually, the pc I updated yesterday may have had some updates waiting.

I doubt this is the case but do you for some reason have offline file synching turned on? If you do I've seen this at work with people that seem to not have any local data saved but if they have offline files turned on and are synching files from a network location the offline files directory can actually eat up a lot of local disk space.

Again, I doubt that is the case here but thought I'd at least throw it out there as a possibility

Win 10 rolling for me. A little slow at the start, but I think it was still finishing up the install. Other'n that, seems fine, but all I've done is read CF. So, the important things are working.
