@BCClone, how is it up there, leaving Des Moines sometime
Every Winter I contemplate moving south, then every Summer I remember why I don't live in the south. If San Diego wasn't so damn expensive I'd be there yesterday
I'm a hippie at heart, so the laid back vibe of San Diego suits me. I get it though, not for everyone. That's the problem with California. The Californians. Seattle would be my cup of tea, but just as expensive as San Diego and the whole volcano/earthquake/tsunami thing.

It's on my list of places to see. My brother lived in Portland briefly and loved it there.Oregon is a bit better for this. It doesnt get quite as warm as southern california in the summer, but it seems to remain mild year-round. Lots of californians have moved up there, and oregonians hate it.
It was an exaggeration but not a big one IMO especially when you are looking at it days in advance. I am obviously biased but I feel that both the broadcast and NWS mets have done a better job the last few years of showing broad probabilities in the preceding days and then narrowing it down as you get closer.
Thankfully there are smart people working to improve the forecasting of all types of weather. They need funding though and I fear for the future if we continue to slash budgets.
Here is a tip. Just put the target over SE Iowa. Freaking brutal. So much for 37 and rain. Just going to be another 5-8" snow. Have already damn near doubled our Yearly totals.
