What changes to Manning’s playbook do you think happened once all these new faces were inserted to #1 on the depth chart?

I’d imagine we will see more down the field plays with Dekkers. He has a few weapons that I think will expand the playbook. Only request is a qb sneak play instead a shotgun run on 4th and 1.

Just trying to stir more football talk… I’m pumped!

I think there will be less TEs on the field, but I think the offense will be very similar to the past two years other than that. I do however think Dekkers may choose to throw to a receiver down field in several situations where Brock would have checked down. I hope we can find some consistency in the offense. We were spoiled by Hall’s talents.

More downfield and I think the zone read actually becomes a dual threat. How many times did we do zone read with Brock and Breece against teams like Iowa and others where teams knew it was going to Breece. Now that will be more of a threat. In short Dekkers should make it easier for the RBs to get yards.

What I think will happen: A conservative play calling afraid of turning the ball over until we get down late and have no choice but to air the ball out. So basically what we've seen for years.

What I wish will happen: get the playmakers the ball. Find a way to get guys like Silas involved on the edges. Take risks, the defense has shown that they can recover from mistakes. We have weapons all over, let them show it.

Less turnovers out of the QB position would be nice too. Especially the backbreaker variety.

Also, as others have mentioned, stepping up in the pocket to deliver balls with power downfield might help the O-line protect and cut down on turnovers too. I think Dekkers can do that. I love Brock and he had an insane completion percentage, but I struggle to remember any deep balls laid out in front where only our guy could go get it.

The team will be interesting. The “if” is not on the players, but the coaching staff. Yes, talent is not 100% proven on the offensive end, but neither is the coaching.
Coaching has been around, yet frustrating, talent is there now use it.

Probably look more like 2017-18 offenses

We are not elite schematically or with play calling. People bring up how our offensive numbers are good, but sometimes that is screwed with teams like UNLV and Louisiana Monroe. In a lot of big games over the last 3 years, they have had some rough outings. With that said, I wonder how much better the offense will look with a QB that can be comfortable stepping up into the pocket? As good as Purdy was for us, he wouldn't do that.

Against physical teams like Iowa and Baylor, we are not going to beat them at their game. A conservative offense does not win those games. We have to figure out how to exploit them. Kind of how Purdue and Northwestern have been able to do against Iowa over the years.

Maybe I'll be surprised, but I think people are going to be disappointed. Like another poster said I think it'll be a conservative offense.

Slow-roll September will be on us soon enough after a bunch of hype all August.

I'm excited for some new-ness to the team but folks expecting Oregon like offense will struggle.
