Back to Dekkers, I hope we run it more with him. If nothing else I'd like some more rollouts with him where he can either throw it or tuck it and run.

Folks seem to disagree with you, but until proven otherwise, that's just what ISU does. Maybe Campbell has turned the corner this year, but the smart money is on looking like hot trash in september.
Exactly. I'd love to be wrong, but we're in Year 7. Campbell teams have been bad in September every single year. 2017 was probably the best we played early in a season.

That's 100% fact. Don't know how people can disagree there.

Way up there
Whats really funny about the close games with FCS schools is the one year we came out aggressive and scored on the first play of the game, mother nature was angered. She intervened, shut the game down and then gave us a December mudhole game against Drake as punishment.

As for back on topic, I have hopes that maybe Manning isn't as bad as I thought he was. I'm hoping Dekkers has confidence to actually step up and sling it instead of dancing around.

I think both Purdy and Manning did eachother no favors. Just felt like oil and water the whole time.

Because I remember the start of the South Dakota (State?) game. The same one that led to the Drake mess.

You remember 1 TD score?

No one knows how that game was going to play out.

RB and OL will tell the story. If they get going then they'll open up a playbook and put less pressure on a 1st year starter. Dekkers has been good in the limited snaps he's played but he has yet to start a game and play an entire game. As the coaches learn what's going to work well/bad as the season evolves I think it will go from conservative to moderate offense.

I can't believe we couldn't get him on the field more last year. Would have been nice to blow some people out so he could get in more live reps.

Campbell has 5 games against FCS schools at ISU.

-1 loss to UNI
-a 3 point win over a non scholarship Drake
-a 3 point win over UNI
-a 6 point win over UNI
-a 22 point win over UNI

Nothing in this spread suggests Drake was an outlier. Campbell teams play down to FCS schools and struggle mightily with anyone from Iowa.

SEMO being out of state is the only chance we have for a comfortable win
Is that really the only FCS games? If so I actually think it is pretty weak evidence for something I agree with you on. You have 4 against UNI who has always played us tough and is a really good FCS team. Then you have one outlier game against Drake. That game was in awful weather, at the end of the season that had no real impact for us, and another Iowa school.

I’d be curious to see what we do this year against someone else.

Also can we get someone on never ever allowing that many UNI games to happen again. I don’t hate plying them sometimes but we do not need to play them so much. Once every 3 years or so is fine but every year pretty much no.

Looking at the offense schematically, I think our base formation will be a 3 receiver set instead of 2 TE sets. This will spread out the defenses a bit more. Also will probably see more screens on the edge. Another change will be to go to more traditional shotgun backfield will QB and RB side by side instead of the pistol sets. The pistol was great for Breece as his style was to read the line more where JB is more of hit the hole right away.

In my head I am thinking something similar to the 2019 offense especially before Breece had his break out game.

Purdy had a weak arm, was afraid to run, and couldn't see over his line. He wasn't the only problem but there's a reason he would get locked down by good defenses. He is a Ken Dorsey. Good manager, average athlete.

What changes to Manning’s playbook do you think happened once all these new faces were inserted to #1 on the depth chart?

I’d imagine we will see more down the field plays with Dekkers. He has a few weapons that I think will expand the playbook. Only request is a qb sneak play instead a shotgun run on 4th and 1.

Just trying to stir more football talk… I’m pumped!
I sure hope he's not UNDER the helm. Kind of hard to steer from there.

Did everyone forget what the offense was like with Park? The offense we've gotten used to was 4.5 years of focusing around the strengths of Purdy and Kempt for a bit. With Park it was a high flying offense before he went off the deep end. Hunter is better than Park and the WR room is good too.
