That article was great. Funny, and excellent points.

This is not a rip on the students who consistently go to the games. As said by others, you guys are doing a great job. But there are seats that are not filled - over and over again - even though the stadium is sold out and in fact oversold. This is a problem.

Heaven help me, but as an alum, Hilton Colisum is probably the single aspect of Iowa State as a whole that I am most proud of. We have a great home court. But it would be even better if every seat was full.

Everyone should be on board with trying to make that happen. How is that even controversial? I really couldn't care less what the solution is, as long as the problem gets solved. And even if it can't ever be solved completely, we should always be trying to solve it.

the system is going to change. that is a fact. less student tickets and a system where those who come to the most games get the best seats/ actually get seats at ku/iowa ect.

if this doenst fix it, the student section will be moved to one end of the court.

Again, these are facts

"....fingerblast some strumpet in the sh**tbox".

It's been decades since I was in school, but are there a lot of 'strumpets enrolled enrolled at Iowa St nowadays? And do they really let you fingerblast them in the restroom ?#? We must be getting more of the coeds that used to apply at Iowa and living in Burge Hall

The problem is that instead of firing up said target group "letters/articles" like that usual cause the target group to continue to be lame little ******* that they are.

Sending a letter to the ISD editor. I could go on for pages and pages but they recommend keeping it at 300 words or less (and I'm already approaching 350).

Cyclone Alley: Helping or Hindering?

Over my three years at Iowa State University, there has been revitalization in a once dormant basketball program. What Fred Hoiberg has done in four short years can simply be described as incredible, and I will forever be proud of the fact that I had the opportunity to witness this in person. However, over the past handful of home basketball games, I’ve begun to wonder if the number of “proudâ€￾ students is the vast minority in a population of predominately casual fans.

Then I remind myself that I take basketball far too seriously at times. There are many more things in life that matter more than a game, but are these things the reason that nearly all of the upper deck student section seats remain empty, even for top-25 showdowns? The simple answer is no, though priorities vary drastically from person to person. Maybe I just tend to overestimate the amount of interest that the basketball program should spark. But other than games against Iowa, Kansas, and maybe Michigan there has been essentially zero risk of being turned away. The doors have recently begun opening for students two hours before game time, which means a student could show up when the doors open and still get themselves a lower-bowl seat. Few arenas in the nation match the atmosphere that Hilton has to offer. Most importantly, this seasons team is among the most likeable group of individuals, as well as one of the most entertaining teams to watch in our proud university’s history. So what reason can there be for all the empty seats?

Ultimately, we may never know the real reason(s). Excuses will continue to be made, students will continue to gobble up all the tickets, and seats will continue to sit empty. So what will change? Will seats need to be taken away? Or will the Cyclone Alley Committee find a way to fill the seats? Because I think I speak for many students when I say that I honestly have no idea what that committee does anyway.

Might not be published, and even if it is I don't even read the daily so I'm not sure how many do. But if anything it raises a little awareness. I understand that there is way more to this topic than I wrote down, but there's no way I could type it all.

Great article!

The real problem in all of this is that you had tons of empty seats and no way for families or cheapskates to get into the games (without selling a limb to do so.) I took my family of four to the Tech game, spent $180 for the single game and saw hundreds (thousands?) of empty seats all over upper ends. So I've got to pay a premium dollar amount just to get into the game only to see tons of empty seats? Seats the AD could have sold to me and my family for a hell of a lot cheaper than $180?

That is what sucks in all of this. And to the guy that keeps posting that nothing is going to change...might want to follow JP on twitter. **** is very much going to change by the tone of some of his posts. Not to mention the alumni base is going to grill him all spring/summer about it.

Somehow seems odd to post an article ripping students and encouraging them to engage in more casual sex and substance imbibing, while later mentioning the tragic death of a student of an overdose.

You guys make it seem like there would be 1000 people every game looking to buy a ticket if they released the seats that weren't picked up by students to the public.

They would probably sell hundreds each for games against ranked Texas and Senior day against OSU.

Most college students, sans your son of course, engage in those activities. The letter was encouraging students to prioritize and engage in those activities before or after the game just as long as they show up to the game.

That's the thing. For all the ********, I think alumni are generally supportive of students being able to get good seats in Hilton. But if the majority of the student body is going to continue to demonstrate they don't really give a **** about going, more and more people are going to start wondering why the AD won't just sell them the tickets instead.

Students shouldn't take all these articles and posts as a lecture. Take it as a well-intended warning that the current student section set-up isn't a given. If deep down you really do care, then you should put your money where your mouth is, step up, and fight to maintain it as the status-quo.

Oh, ok. I thought they said they were all nerds and mamas babies who don't do basketball, sex, and substance abuse. I guess it is the attack they ones who go to basketball for being nerds approach.

Again, much of it seems to be people who wish they were still students or want to grab the seats at a cheap non-donor level. Multiple students and student fees have paid for the seats several times over.

Well, if I could get a $10 single game ticket in the balcony... guess they only need to find 999 more. BBall season tickets are not an option for me as I cant make all the games. And I sure is hell am not going to buy and then let a seat go empty.

You buy, you either go, or ensure the seat is filled by a Cyclone. Take it from a guy who attended during the Wayne era. I still kick myself for missing a few games during those years, even when there was so much less to cheer for.

The sooner some of you realize that not every student even likes basketball, the sooner we can drop this topic.

I see. "I don't like basketball, but I am going to buy basketball season tickets and not use them."

Totally understandable.:twitcy:

Less student tickets? Not our JP! He will find a way to resell the seats without giving up the student season ticket income.

So you don't have a problem with emtpy seats all over the ends of Hilton? Just fine and dandy? Also, I'm a Cardinal level donor to the Cyclone Club...and frankly, I need those cheap non donor seats for MBB. I live to far away for season tickets. There are families all over Iowa that would snatch those tickets up..I promise you. Now? They just go unused.

It was pathetic again Wednesday night. Nice to see Gladis Hefty there though, always makes me laugh.

Not true. The pathetic part. The Gladys Hefty part was true. I thought this was the best crowd, other than KU, since December. And the students took it to Harris which was great. Our criticism of the students rings hollow if we don't recognize them when they deliver.
