So what if he's a running back? There are too many people better than him, period

How the hell can you compare him to a QB or WR? He's the best player in the nation at his postion, PERIOD. That player deserves an invite to NYC. He won't win but he deserves to be there.

at running the ball, yes. At his position? That's debatable, he's not a complete back.

The worse run D Iowa has faced is Purdue at 96th and yes Iowa State is ranked higher at 89th, I can't imagine what he would do to A&M, K State or UNLV.

Or Maine or Florida International, for that matter.

Are you really comparing his first two games in two years to how he's played more recently? Greene now >>>>>>>>> vs. Maine/FIU, and even you have to admit that. And it's not even close.

He's dead even now with where he was the first two games.

I don't think you can definitively say that. Greene has 1634 total yards. Just in the Big 12 I really like Hunter from OSU (1574 total yards, better per carry average). Washington and Murray are also very good. If he were definitively the best player in the nation at his position he would be definitively the #1 RB taken in the draft next year and that probably isn't going to happen.

I've said previously in this post that I didn't think he would get an invite. He's got a lot going against him. No pre-season hype, the Hawks are 7-4, B10 is down, etc. The guy could/should finish with around 1700 yards for the season. To say that he hasn't earned an invite is wrong, but it does speak well for the players in front of him

Why has he "earned" an invite? Only 5 players get invited every year. And unless something significant happens over the next couple of weeks, those 5 players are most likely going to consist of 3 Big XII QBs: Bradford (OU), McCoy (UT), Harrell (TT), arguably the best WR that played in this decade in Crabtree (TT), and the defending winner in Tebow.

It's just amazing what these guys have done when you look at the stats:
QB rating: 2. Bradford (196.32), 4. McCoy (177.60), 7. Harrell (169.18)
Passing yards: 1. Harrell (4077), 5. Bradford (3406), 9. McCoy (3134)
Actually, Chase Daniel should be in this discussion as well, as he compares very well with the other 3 Big XII QBs (#5 in QB rating, #3 in passing yards).

Here's the thing, if you want Greene to be considered for Heisman, why shouldn't you consider Javon Ringer from Michigan St as well? Their stats are pretty similar, PLUS MSU beat Iowa earlier this year:

NAME CAR | YDS | YPC | LONG | TD
1.Shonn Greene, Iowa 256 | 1585 | 6.275 | 15
2.Javon Ringer, Mich St 353 | 1548 | 4.464 | 20

LOL Their stats are similar...except that Greene has more yards on 100 less attempts.

What are you smoking? Ringer SUCKED against Iowa. How can you even use the "MSU Beat Iowa" argument?

Your argument is based purely on the fact that Greene plays for Iowa. If you don't think he is better than Ringer, you're stupid. You know why? Because Ringer even says so, as per a BTN interview the other night.

So what about Hunter? He has a better YPC, only 150 yards less on 46 less carries... But he makes that up with 100 more receiving yards.

He sucked? Really? 25 carries for 91 yards, 3.6 average? Pretty solid numbers if you ask me. Wasn't exactly Greene's day, but any team in the nation will take that line, even Iowa if they didn't have Greene. But one stat that they were both even on on that day - both had 0 touchdowns. And the all-important stat - Michigan State won that game.

And as far as your comment that he has 100 more attempts, the dude still has 4.4 yards per attempt. Last time I checked that average will keep the chains moving.

Suck isn't exactly the word I'd use in describing Ringer - one of the best in the nation is.

For what it's worth, it's a common misconception that the Heisman selectors automatically invite the top 5 vote-getters to the presentation ceremony every year. There's actually no set limit. Since they started televising the presentation ceremony, there have been as few as three invitees (in 2005 and 2006) and as many as seven (in 1989). After the votes are tabulated, they look for a natural "break" in the vote totals to determine who will be invited. In 2005 and 2006, there was a large gap between the top three vote-getters and the the player in fourth place, so they invited just three players. Oftentimes, the gap occurs between the fifth and sixth players in the vote totals, so a significant number of the presentation ceremonies have included five players.

People also don't seem to grasp that the multitudinous Big XII candidates will split the Big XII vote. Greene has a decent shot at even finishing third, depending on how the votes fall.

Not necessarily - if Tech goes into Norman and takes out Oklahoma on Saturday and then beats Missouri in the Big XII title game, he will have defeated each and every "stud" QB in the conference - Bradford (OU), McCoy (UT), Robinson (OSU), and Daniel (MU). If it goes down like this Harrell will run away with the Big XII vote in a landslide.
