REMEMBER This: If we're not playing this game this weekend in Arrowhead, than this game would not be played in Jack Trice Stadium until November 28th! This was supposed to be our bye week. I would much rather play in Arrowhead on Oct 3rd then Jack Trice on Thanksgiving weekend. People would then be biching about a game during Thanksgiving. THREAD OVER

What? Have you read any of this thread? KSU has sold 9,000 through the school compared to our 11,000. Assuming a similar amount bought through Ticketmaster, the crowds will be almost 50/50, with the possibility of ISU having more fans.

Actualy it's pretty impressive we've sold more. Arrowhead is a lot closer to Kansas than Iowa.

The extra $800,000 in profit over 2 years will be worth it but only if it doesn't cost us a bowl game this year. Let's win and make it a non-issue! I'm jacked up for the game and I'll be in attendance!
Who is to say we would win the game if it was here? The team that plays better Saturday is going to win. That's it.

Again, 120ish from Manhatten. 200ish from Ames, not a significant difference at all.

Look at the respective population bases and how far they are from Kansas City and yes it is signifigant.

And another 80 miles isn't a long distance?

An hour is NOT a significant distance.

If you're doing population bases, we need to move our to the metro instead of Ames, which cuts it down to about a 30 mile difference depending on what part of the Metro.

My only complaint about the ISU/K-State game has been the lack of promotion of the game here in KC. I think that most casual fans are not even aware that this game is taking place. A co-worker was surprised last night when I told him the game was at Arrowhead and not Ames because he had seen ISU listed as the home team in a pick 'em tournament he's doing.

One good thing is that both KU and MU have bye weeks so there has finally been some talk about the game on 610 and 810 am, the two local sports talk stations. I even heard an interview with Coach Rhoads replayed on my drive home from work.

It sounds like you're assuming the center of the world for each of the schools are Ames and Manhatten and that's where all the ticket buyers are going to come from. That's simply not the case.

Look at this way. Draw a line North South in the middle of Kansas and in Iowa. I'd venture to say 2/3 of the populations in both states live east of that line. The eastern half of Kansas is a lot closer to Kansas City then the eastern half of Iowa. Heck if you want to go another way, draw a line east west across each state and you'd come to a similar conclusion for the Northern areas.

We can slice and dice this all we want. All I'm saying is they have a slight advantage and it's impressive ISU has sold more ticket then KSU.

I think the game is a no brainer from a financial stand point. Good deal for ISU and it's a wash on the whole losing a home game debate. KSU loses one too.

So the Hawks play Arkansas State this week. Had the Hawks done a 2 year neutral site agreement with Arkansas State (hypothetically speaking) at Arrowhead, Hawks fans would have ate up those tickets months ago. Yet our fan base fails to do so, and chooses to find every reason in the book to ***** about this game being played in KC.

Yet another reason why ISU plays second fiddle to Iowa in this state.

Weird Hypothetical.

I think they'd have similar issues.

I realize that Iowa would never get into an agreement like this, but I promise you the situations between the two schools would not be similar at all. Iowa fans would eat up those tickets fast!

Why take a home game away from the fans? In this economy why move a game to KC. It is clear the KC fans dont care. It is one less home game, one less game with home field advantage for a team that is fighting to get 6 wins. It makes it hard for me to want to go when the hotel rooms rates are jacked up because it is the same weekend as the race, heck are there even rooms in KC for the weekend. Then I would have to figure out what I am goign to do with my kids. Then I would have to drive 3 hours to see 2 average FB teams play.

Yeah. Over a year's notice is not nearly enough time to figure all of that out.

I definitely agree about the travel time, but season ticket holders shouldn't use "cost" as a reason not to go as they would have paid a similar amount or more money to watch the game in Ames.

For us, the cost of the game would have fit perfectly two or three weeks from now, but not this week.

We're season ticket holders, but the cost of travelling just wasn't there for this particular week. We would have been paying much more to get to the game in KC than a game in Ames, between gas, parking, and food.

I disagree.

Sure they'd sell tickets, but woudn't be any different then other road games for them.

The trip is even closer then you think for the two teams. Since the stadium is on the east side of KC that cuts the drive from Ames down to 3 hours and increases the drive from Manhatten to 2 1/2. So the drive time is only a 1/2 hour difference if you go from the campus.

I also disagree. Their fan base isn't some monolith that just automatically sells out every game their team plays in, no matter the place or the opponent.

On the other hand, it is a little cheaper for Hawk fans to make those road trips, since they can just snap those wheels onto the house and roll on out. That saves some hotel costs for them.
