I really hope Cody packs it up and quits, because this change makes me nervous. I've been saying all week that if they fired the Hawk, I hoped it was after our game. They have talent that is at least on par with us, and they have a home field that gives us fits. Top it off with the fact that I believe this game is Senior Day for them.

We jump out to an early lead and they will fold like a cheap tent, but if we don't and they get a little confidence, we walk out of Boulder with another head scratcher of a loss. This is a dangerous situation for us to be walking into. Wish we could have found win number 6 last weekend.

I wonder what the status of Cody is?

I think the idea that Cody will quit or do anything other than play as well as he can this weekend is overblown. He's a 5th year senior and I'm sure he'd crushed by his dad getting fired, but it hardly came out of nowhere or was "unfair". I think he still suits up and plays for the other guys on the team that he has been a part of for five years.

In fact, to be honest, I'm worried that it'll be tougher to gameplan because we can't count on every play being "go deep with Cody to get him closer to the record".

Why is this Saturday senior day when they still have KSU at home?

Why on earth would Cody want to put up the game of his life now? He's got no pro ball aspirations, and now his dad is fired. He suddenly puts up an amazing game, the credit goes to the new coach for "Finally finding a way to put a fire in this Colorado team" and it makes his dad look even worse.

I just can't fathom any motivation for Cody to play anything but a lame duck game.
That is precisely where it might come from. He has no future career to look at and this for them is one of those games that they feel they can win Im sure. However the italic is where I think he comes out flat. But Id imagine the bolded is reason enough for him to play hard not to mention I imagine alot of the guys will be playing to impress their interim coach.

Nope. thats how CU ended up losing to kansas...huge lead and didn't bother to eat clock and hardly ran in the 4th qtr.

A CU fan calculated that if CU had milked the clock and taken a knee on every play, KU would have had no more than 57 seconds to score the last TD.

Cody "Bomber" Hawkins was blamed for the loss as they continued to pass.

He means when they have senior day, provided that he's still on the team. You know they recognize the parents that day right?

If I were Cody I'd tell CU to p*** up a rope. They could've waited until the season was over to fire the kids dad.

I could see Hawkins the Younger quitting before Saturday. That would leave CU in a lurch.

IMO, even if they have all the fire in the world, we should still win for one very simple reason: COACHING. There's no way in hell they're getting a coherent game plan implemented this week.

I dunno, there is no way their coaching could get any worse, so an unpredictable game plan works against us I think.

With the change happening today, they aren't going to be able to change much. They already went through one practice with Hawkins yesterday.

I actually think that they might have to simplify the offensive scheme.

The reason that Cody might not want to quit is because D-Hawks might still want to coach. I am not sure how many friends D-hawk has in the coaching profession but you don't sabotage the program.
It's a catch-22 for Cody: if he plays well and the team wins, it shows that his dad was the problem. If he sucks, he'll give his critics tons of ammo :)

I didnt read the entire thread so perhaps this has been mentioned, but the whole, "let's go win this one for coach" mentality scares me.
See: Coach McCarney's last game as a Cyclone.
