Off the current topic.
At what point does a 16 or 18 team conference just become two 8 or 9 team conferences?
If Notre Dame came knocking on their door tomorrow I guarantee they would be whistling a different tune...

[QUOTE
" If there really are 4 leagues of 18-20 teams, any solution with ISU not grouped with the Big Ten teams really doesn't make sense."
Not really very much sense to anything going on that I can see.
I guess if some people want to argue that Illinois and Northern Illinois shouldn't be in the same conference then fine (even though I think that is contradictory to a mission statement of a any university's goal that their #1 concern should be to educate students). But all these are already BCS teams that should be in the same conference in my opinion.
I think this is the key quote in that statement:
"the (Big Ten) would like to reiterate that it will not be actively engaged in conference expansion at this time, or at any time in the foreseeable future, barring a significant shift in the current intercollegiate athletic landscape."
The SEC issued a statement sometime last week, just before A&M's BOR voted to allow the president to look for another conference. A few hours later, the SEC issued a statement saying the 12-team model no longer worked for them.
I guess I don't agree that rivals or schools in the same state should necessarily be in the same conference. Take ISU/Iowa for example. Iowa is on the western end of conference that primarily spans eastward toward the eastern border of the US. ISU is on the northern end of a conference that primarily spans southward towards the southern border of the US. The exposure for the state of Iowa as a whole is greatly expanded by having one school in each conference, because although the conferences overlap in Iowa, they don't overlap anywhere else. I think this is a good thing.
And i think there's a good chance nothing comes from that lawsuit. TAMU\SEC could argue that the SEC merely encouraged them to exercise their rights under the contract to leave.
Rights? Thosee are liquidated damages in the case of a breach. And i think there's a good chance nothing comes from that lawsuit. TAMU\SEC could argue that the SEC merely encouraged them to exercise their rights under the contract to leave.

With all of the details that need to be straightened out plus the potential legal implications this could mean that aTm and other won't make a move for a long time...
This thread could go on forever!! :swoon:
I have absolutely no idea on anything regarding the legal system, but it would seem to me that if 10 men agreed to build a house for $1 billion (fox contract), then one of them walked off the job and the replacement cost for that guy's share of the work was $200 million, then the guy would walked off the job would be responsible for the replacement cost...I really don't know though. I'm sure with the legal system there is a way to get around everything.
Or at least as long as the Big 12 gives them to make a decision or face a $100 million exit fee to leave before a specified amount of time...say 3 weeks.
