I love seeing that Fred is continuing to get great talent looking at Iowa State...

... but put me in the group that gets disapointed with other fans who immediately start throwing out names of our current players that will get replaced by this "recruit who is just CONSIDERING Iowa State".

It's not our job as fans to determine which of players at Iowa State are good enough to continue to play for us. That's Fred's job. We have no clue what his plan's are for Railey or Sledge (a Freshman none the less). Maybe he's got big plans on how to use those guys in future years.

Even if he doesn't, you don't see Fred coming onto the message boards talking about which players he wants to leave his program. That kind of stuff should be handled between Fred and the players. I don't think we need to help Fred do his job by trying to "drive off" some of his current players by showing them what you think of their talent level from the few minutes you've seen them play.

My job as a fan is to cheer for the guys we've got who are putting in work to help OUR team reach success.

Go ahead and get excited about the possibility of brining in great talent... but unless you don't like hearing the players comment about how we've got the best fans in the nation... there's no point in us stating which players we think need to leave our team.

By the way... I'm not calling out anyone in particular in this thread, so even if you were somewhat critical of some of our players, I'm not saying you can't do that. I'm just stating a general feeling/opinion that I have.

You define the word panzy in my book. You really think Hoiberg has 'big plans' for Railey? C'mon now. He hardly plays this year and hardly played last year on a turrrrible team. You, my fellow cyclone fan, are a sugar-coater.

Ok i get what your saying. But come on man. All of the scholarships are filled for next, yet Fred is still recruiting guys apparently.... What does that tell you? It says Fred KNOWS we are losing at least one player next year that's not a senior. If this guy commits it will be at least 2. Fred probably already knows who wants to transfer at the end of the year. Its ok for fans to speculate on who it will be. Were not hurting any feelings.

Also, were not trying to "run kids off" us fans that realize someone has to go next year are looking at the roster and seeing which players make the most sense to move on. Right now that would most likely be Royce going pro, Railey transferring because he isnt a big 12 player, booker leaving because he graduates and can play immediately at another school or sledge because he thought he would get more playing time here. Those are the most obvious choices but your right, us fans dont know and fred probably does. Maybe percy isnt happy? Or Ejim? I doubt it, i think it will be 1 or 2 of the other 4 i mentioned. You can keep living under a rock if you want but im a realist.

Even if he's a little suspect in the classroom, bring him in anyway, and give it your best shot. He's very likely to be able to stay eligible for at least 1-2 years, which is still worth it for a long guy that can jump, dunk and block shots.

He said "maybe".

You don't get it.

Does everyone here bashing current players realize we have parents/ relatives read this board? Speculating about players that should leave is not flattering of the fanbase.

Yes, it's apparent not everyone will be back. That doesn't mean you HAVE to speculate.

I think people are confusing the fact that you can't be recruited and get an academic scholarship with being recruited and getting an academic scholarship.

Think about how stupid a rule like that would be. It wouldn't make an ounce of sense.

Call me what you want to in your book, odds are I won't be reading it. I guess I just like to show a little class and respect when I talk about a fellow cyclone.

Do I think Fred has 'big plans' for Railey... no. Do I know Fred wants to run him off the team next year... no. Do I think he's as talentless as some people here are convinced he is... no. There are players who don't make an impact for their first three years and then have solid senior years.

Do I think Fred has 'big plans' for Sledge... I don't know... maybe.

Wouldn't that suck if you drove from out of state to attend a sold out game... then they put your picture on the center hung and commented that they wish you weren't at the game so they had room for this other guy who has a ton of money and has potential to be a huge donor in the future... then everyone around you start to boo you and told you that you should leave Hilton so that there's room for this other guy to come in and watch the game.

People who are speculating get what you are saying, but you are in the wrong place if you don't want to see speculation. It is going to happen. It's a message board.

If Hoiberg thought people speculating about who was going to leave the team would be worse than the possible benefits of bringing last years #1 center in for a visit, the visit would never happen. Turns out, he probably thinks that getting the kid is very important for the team's future.

And in general, people aren't "bashing" players. They are simply observing the two scholarship players on the team who don't play and seeing that we are two scholarships over the limit for next year. They are also observing that one player has the ability to transfer to play 1 year without sitting out. Those are pretty much the only 3 places the 1 or 2 scholarships could come.

And Hoiberg isn't "running anyone off of the team". If anything happens, he will help that player get to a good school if they want his help and give other coaches looking at that player advice on whether or not to take them. Sometimes things in life just don't work out over the course of 2-4 years. It happens.

Here are the rest of the 2011 centers Rivals Top 18 list. I'll be honest I've never heard of any of these guys. Only a few of them having much impact on their teams this year after looking at their freshman year stats.

Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - 2011: Centers

Pelle would be awesome next to Royce but I'm going to tamper my expectations until he faces BCS competition.

Bubu wasn't recruited. Once recruited you can't be a walk on I believe. Scholarships are definitely for one year as mentioned.

You can be a recruited walk-on. You just can't receive any scholarships at all if you were recruited (even non-athletic ones) or you count as a scholarship athlete. That's my interpretation, at least.

I have no issues with people speculating... and have no problems with what a lot of people have said on here... there's just a line that that I think some people cross. I also I don't necessarily think they intend to sound as bad as their posts come off. Just as people probably read my post in a different tone than I actually intended. (Hence the disclaimer at the bottom).

What happens if Player XYZ isn't the guy that Fred "knows" will be leaving this year. Well... now he knows that the Iowa State fanbase thinks he's not Big 12 talent and when ISU is in foul trouble and Fred need's that guy to put in minutes off the bench... I bet he'll be playing with a ton of confidence.

I understand this is a message board, and I've certainly engaged in plenty of speculation here.

Thia is as simple as I can put it: there is zero benefit to this type of speculation, only risk.

Might be a good idea to temper your expectations until there is anything to temper. He's only visiting, right? It's not as though he's committed.

I would never do that because I'm a season ticket holder that lives an hour from Ames. Your last paragraph is way out of wack. I do not think Jordan Railey is talentless. I think if he wants to play, he'll do it somewhere else. Too much talent ahead of him. Im done addressing this topic.

This guy looks pretty dang good even though all I saw were dunks/blocks in his highlight videos. If he wants to come, tell Railey he can stay, but as a walk-on. Realistically speaking, he will never contribute with the type of talent we having coming in along with the recruits we are going after. If he can't contribute this year, I dont know what would make him think he can next year with all of our posts returning + Georges Niang. And for all of you sissies telling people not to talk about current players, sorry for being a realist and wanting what's best for the program.

Jeff Withey would like to have a word with you.

Big men take time. Railey may never develop into a contributor, but as long as Fred keeps him on the team, I will assume there's a good reason for it.

tone it down, okay? Some of your posts are coming close to the line of respectfulness.
