Sources: ACC schools starting to put out feelers to Big 12

Chip Brown
Orangebloods.com
Two Big 12 sources told Orangebloods.com Tuesday there has been informal contact from Florida State, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Miami with the Big 12 about possible expansion.

End of ACC if this is true

It gives the conference some geographic cohesion.

I think Louisville is the kind of school that could really take off if they were in a big conference.

I think Louisville would bring vlue to the conference. They have very good facilities and a strong AD budget (even on Big East money). They are solid in football and excellent in basketball.

They can't all be football juggernauts.

EDIT:
I also think ISU could have a good rivalry with them in both sports. Let's play for the Cardinal cup!

I'm neutral on this if true.

I like it if true. UL has been begging for entry into the Big 12 and won't come in with a big ego. I'm not a fan of adding lots of heavy weights and egos like FSU and ND without tempering it with the stability minded teams like UL. This is a team ISU will compete with year in and year out and will help expand out footprint as well. Should add good chemistry and that is what the Big 12 needs more than anything.

I agree.

But the commish and the AD's are going for the home-runs since we they have power to do so.

I still think 16 makes more sense than 14. If we can get FSU, CU, ND, LU, PITT, and Miami, we should do it now and not wait.

Point being, I think we should stay at 12, or go to 16.

CB has been told by people in the Big 12 Tuesday there has been informal contact from Clemson, FSU, Miami and VT. Thought the intrest from VT and Miami was interesting and new.

Testifying
Isn't it crazy how Cincinnati seemed like an option in some people's eyes a year ago, and now the rumors are FSU, ND, Clemson?
Wow, what a rollercoaster.

The only real issue I see with VT is that it was a huge deal in Virginia to have Virginia Tech join University of Virginia in the ACC conference. I don't see the two of those schools ever breaking up again. I kind of foresee those two schools being a package deal similar to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

I'd be considering a North Carolina school. State and Chapel hill both beeping a ton of TV sets, and good academics.

I would have a split opinion about NCSU. If they joined the Big 12 I would be happy that my grad school Alma Mater found a good landing spot, but sad that they would have to play my undergrad Alma Mater.

NCSU is very comparable to ISU academic-wise. Both top Ag schools, great engineering schools, similar size, similar research budgets, etc... also both consider each other peer institutions.

Unless this could get UVA into the B1G? Otherwise yeah, if VT was going to jump w/o UVA there'd be some pretty p*ssed off people in Virginia I'm guessing.

Looking back it would have been nice not to have jumped the gun adding TCU. WVU and Louisville should have been the teams added at that time. TCU lucked out by being able to easily get out of the Big East contract, and Football has had a good run lately.

Split would be really nice East/West at 16 if they weren't in it. Nothing we can do now about it now, though.

Valid point. And UVA would make a nice B1G addition (as would Maryland and probably Rutgers). VATech is so similar to ISU it is amazing (same with NC State). In fact, VATech really should consider holding their own VEISHA.
