Remind me, why did we not want Woodbury?

If he was so effective, why did he do so little work on teh boards or blocking shots? Seriously, Woodbury was not a difference maker last night.

did you even watch the game?

when he was out, we had our way with getting into the lane and getting shots off but we avoided going in there with him in

stats dont always tell the story defensively - wasnt that our argument all last year with how effective babb is despite not getting many steals?

to me iowa, having a tall effective post player and competent pg's is why they are so much improved

You just became my fav poster. Best freshman on the court last night was Niang. But that doesn't mean Woodbury won't be a big time college player. The butt hurt right now on this site is ridiculous. The kid got an offer from North Carolina for christs sake. He didn't want to be a Cyclone - life goes one. Lazard just committed mostly because he bleeds cardinal and gold. You win some, you lose some. But every single one of you saying hes awful and he wouldn't play for us make our fan base look like dumb *****.

Clemmons had 14 points, 8 assists and 1 turnover. That's your best freshman on the court right there.

If it were a choice between Woody and Niang...I'd take Georges in a heart beat.

Why would this ever be a choice? They don't play the same position and the question has never been that a team can only take one or the other.

Am I the only one that wasn't impressed with Woodbury? Sure, he played ALRIGHT, but we have no bigs that can play defense. Booker and Gibson looked like poosies on defense the ENTIRE game, Ejim couldn't keep his hands off the Hawks, and Niang can't do all the work himself. Jordan Railey could do better than what Woodbury did last night.

The honest truth is CFH passed on Woodbury because he looks like a goober. You need to be aesthetic to play for the Cyclones. Same goes for Gessell.

There...it's out. Now you know.
Woodbury looks much better than Gessell.

This. The best thing the ISU guards, and even the post players, could have done last night early would have been to go at Woodbury and try to get him into foul trouble. If he blocks all the attempts.....fine.....then it's a bad idea. But you have to try, and I didn't see ISU doing that when he was in there. The guy has been prone to foul trouble, and Iowa is a much better defensive team when he is in there. Even most Hawk fans will tell you that.

It is not because he blocks hundreds of shots....but just the fact that he alters the other team's game plan a bit. ISU should have gone right at him until he showed he would not foul them. I didn't see it enough.

It's too bad the cyclone defenders weren't smart enough to stop his one move. The drop step hook shot. Incredibly frustrating to watch him do that whenever he got the ball last night and the defense refused to do anything about it.

I remember watching Kareem growing up. It always ticked me off that defenders refused to do anything about his sky hook.

Woody will be a solid player but just someone I wouldnt want on my team...He's not very athletic and doesnt move very well...Last night was the first time I have seen him in person and if that was his best game I wound't be too impressed. He needs to learn how to be 7 feet tall before he can be a good bball player.

Typical overreaction thread. Our team, which is better, or at least will be by the end of the year, doesn't show up for the game at CHA last night and some posters spend the rest of the evening asking why we didn't recruit their mediocre players that had better than usual evenings last night, especially when they had no interest in coming to ISU?

No wonder I avoided this site last night after the game - stupidity reigned the night.

We're a veteran team and you think we'll improve throughout the season more than Iowa will?

We along with other programs had absolutely 0% chance of getting him, his family are huge Hawkeye fans and he was going there from the beginning no matter what. End of Story.

Not worried about Woodbury at all. Had a wide open dunk at a 7 footer and almost screwed it up. So uncoordinated. Now Clemmons an Gesell on the other hand look like a very scary backcourt for years to come.

Let's recap: ISU plays like dog **** for one night on the road in front of a hostile crowd, it's leading scorer plays probably the worst college game of his career, and after all this ISU still only loses by nine. And suddenly Woodbury is the missing link? Take a deep breath people.

Even if Fred wanted him, I'm glad he didn't come here. There's no place in an up-tempo offense for a slow 7-footer that doesn't rebound all that well. He was okay last night, but im not wetting my pants over it.

Iowa plays a faster tempo than we do currently. I'm not suggesting you start wetting your pants, but I'm certain Fred would have taken him in a second, so I'm not sure why you would say you wouldn't want him even if Fred did.
