Re: Rashad Vaughn

In a gopher bball recruiting podcast yesterday, Ryan James mentioned that KU - Kansas is/ will be hot on Rashad until the end. I take that to mean that Self has made RV a priority.

Most likely since we could get him with The Mayor.

Self is worried. I like that...

And, "Let Me Mayor Coach."

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Nope. Podcast was mostly about Raheem Buckles, Reid Travis, Isaiah Whitehead, Elijah Thomas, and all about the gophers, not necessarily any of the other players in their recruitment. Syracuse (Whitehead) and KU (RV) were the only mentions I can remember.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Hello again. Sorry I seem to post at strange hrs. I am finding that drs. appointments, mood swings, and craving, are not myths. UGH.. Still excited to be a dad finally. First let me address the various comments. I meant KU as in Kansas not KY as in kentucky. His parents don't really like Calipari that much so you can effectively cross them off the list. Yes I did say he was ours to lose. Guess what we lost him. I am sure you have seen the story about how he did indeed almost commit to UNC and his parents pulled the plug. He is BIG on UNC but his parents aren't so while it pains me, you can cross us off the list as well. The fact that we signed Theo Pinson may have a lot to do with it as well. This leaves imho You guys, Baylor (window dressing), KU, MN, and UCLA
UCLA is intriguing but some of our insiders don't think they have a good shot. More like another window dressing school. Ditto Baylor. I think that Minnesota won't get him either I just don't think he feels he can really win there. Leaving you guys and KU. Your coach has a proven record, he can do more with less. He can also take what some people may call bad apples and turn them around. I respect the hell out of your coach. Hope he retires there. KU it is indeed the wiggins factor according to our insiders. Vaughn liked the way they treated Wiggins like a rock star on their campus. He was treated like a rock star on all campuses, but I guess Phog Allen was just different. Add to this the fact that Bill Self has proven he can win with less, as well as more, and there you go. Yes the interest is indeed serious. remember KU was late to the party with Wiggins as well and they got him. So you have to fear KU if they can they will get him. Vaughn does really like Iowa State and he likes that the coach is selling him on playing time, and the piece that gets them over the hump, and into championship contention. I know this is a long post but I don't have time like I used to. Can't just post several post and wait for responses. Plus getting ready to head back to Afghan. (sigh) well have a good day.

GO HEELS!!!!

Thanks for the info. Glad to get some more info about North Carolina. I am glad he isn't going to play for the Rat.

I have a hard time believing that Carolina insiders know what Vaughn is thinking, but maybe they do.

I also did not know that Vaughn had visited KU....when did this happen?

I have thought for a while that his parents are what is keeping us in this thing. That's good, except that in the end, it might be all they do. Maybe enough to get us in the top 5, but not enough to get picked.

I will always "fear" KU when it comes to recruiting. If they are on the list for a prospect I generally don't like our chances.

Agreed. There is little history of us beating KU in recruiting, and Self seems to be one of the hottest 2-3 recruiters in MBB right now. You never want to sleep on a blue blood like KU because it could be as simple as one official to KU where RV is blown away and fits in. Everything can change in a weekend in recruiting.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Not shutting the door on RV at all, but if (and I say "if") much of what Mr. Tarheel is saying is true, then I want to barf. I'd rather he go to Kentucky or Minn than end up at KU. Just what Self needs is another top 15 guy and doing it with probably a whole lot less work than what CFH and others have put in on him. Think our staff would feel the same way. (like barfing, that is.)

Agreed, I'm not sure Fred would be happy with RV going to KU after all the work he's put in on him only to lose him to our biggest adversary with a late push.
