Well that makes sense, you had no reason to watch the NCAA tourney last spring, so you wouldn't have seen the fisting we got in the 3rd round.

I watch every ISU game that I can. I watched that game with Cyclone buddies of mine, and I wanted ISU to be those OSU ****s. As it was OSU and Craft did what they do to everyone, find a way to win. While I do root for ISU, I'm not a homer for them, and I realize that no call cost them the game. If you are going to say that a call with 1:30 + left in the game cost them, then you can say that any bad call at any point in the game costs a team a win.

This is exactly what I mean when I say no fan base cries about refs/officials like the ISU fan base does. Craft hit that shot, ISU lost the game, the refs didn't cost ISU that game, Craft did.

Nothing wrong with iowa playing a close one and winning. Doesn't mean they can't still achieve their goals for the season. That said that type of performance should prove that Iowa is a team Iowa State should expect to beat at home.

My thoughts on Iowa basketball after 2 games.

Last year they were a bubble team that played like a tourney team at the end of the year. A weak schedule and some bad losses kept them out, but they made a solid run in the NIT that ended in a beating by a talented Baylor team.

They lost Eric May, and I think we can all agree that isn't a huge loss. They added Jok and Uthoff. In my opinion Uthoff will make this a better team. He is a good shooter, pretty decent off the dribble, good rebounder, and his length is benefit on the defensive side. I think Jok is going to be a very good player, but he is a freshman and will struggle this year. I think he can be effective as a spot up shooter, which is something Iowa needs. Bottom line, I would take either on my team.

Offensively they are going to attack the lane and draw a lot of fouls. They are a good shooting team from the line, so this strategy will be effective. So far it appears that they still won't shoot well from outside. If this improves they can be a very good offensive team.

Defensively they are long and do a good job protecting the rim. I think they give up way too many open 3's and good teams will take advantage. I also think they will struggle defending really athletic teams, like in the Baylor game last year.

In my opinion, the Hawks will be better than they were a year ago. That being said they play a tougher schedule and their record may be about the same. I think the 4 seed/top10 predictions that I have heard from some people are absurd at this point. In my opinion they probably fall somewhere between a bubble team and border line top 25.

I think the Iowa/ISU game will be very interesting. Iowa's strength (getting to the line)could exploit one of our biggest potential issues (foul trouble). However, if they allow us 25-30 3's and we are knocking them down, I think we win this game. If it was a road game I would probably feel different.

Uthoff will be a solid player, Jok would be worst guard on Hoiberg's roster this year.

You should stop. ISU fans were far from the only ones who thought that call cost them the game. If that is called correctly OSU needs 2 possessions. If you think the call made on ISU's last possession didn't cost them the game you're just an idiot. Sorry, no 2 ways around it.

I love iowa fans saying Iowa State fans cry about the refs. Michigan state in the big 10 tourney last year anyone?

But when Iowa fans do it, it's because the refs were actually terrible. When ISU fans do it, it's because we like to whine.

I also remember the national outcry and the rule changes that went in to place to correct the robbery that occurred in the Iowa vs MSU game...

Thanks for proving my point. So if everyone doesn't agree that the refs cost them the game, they are idiots, no 2 ways around it.

Lets see if the USA today agreed with you, or if they are idiots:

Iowa State can't blame the loss entirely on the bang-bang play. The team had multiple chances to win the game in the final seconds. The Cyclones still held the lead after the change of possession and had the ball with the game tied with 1:15 remaining, setting up Ohio State's final possession. On Craft's buzzer beater, the defense allowed him to dribble without contest and gave him space to hit the final shot.
Unless a bad call comes on the final play of a game that's result would have been reversed otherwise -- like that NFL replacement ref debacle in Seattle -- they are tenuous scapegoats, at best.

Thanks again for proving my point. ITS DA REFS!!!

NIT wins:

Indiana State
Stoney Brook
Virginia
Maryland.

Not a solid run... just a good win against Maryland.

They won games they should have .. and thats all that matters... BUT, IMO not a solid run.

Ummmm the Hawks blew that lead and the game, NOT the refs. Cost them a spot in the NCAA tourney as well, and they didn't deserve to go when you blow that kind of lead.

I had dinner with some Aunts, 2 of my cousins (1 male and 1 female), and my cousin's gf. We got on the subject of basketball. My male cousin is a huge Iowa fan but he transferred here from Kirkwood for whatever reason and he said, stone cold in the face, "I would rather go to the championship of the NIT and lose by 20 than only win one game in the NCAA's"

I asked him to name me one other team not named Baylor, Iowa or Kentucky that was in the NIT last year. He couldn't even name the teams Iowa faced. Then I asked him if he watched Selection Sunday? "Yes, Of course" and I asked why? "To see if Iowa made the tourn...."

He didn't talk to me the rest of dinner.

for as much trolling as the mods let you do here you think you would be better at it. And yes you're still an idiot if you think a blown call that cost ISU 2-3 points on their last possession didn't cost them the game.

Thanks for compiling. So a 4-5 FT advantage at home VS on the road. I would say that sounds about right, and why it is so hard to win on the road.

So disagreeing with you, and agreeing with the USA today makes me a troll??? RIIIIIGGGGGHHHHHTTTTTT.

BTW if I wanted to troll, I'd hop onto the football boards. I actually love talking BB, and like watching ISU play. I get trolled all the time around here, and I'm not crying about it, I just dish it back at times.....all good fun if you ask me.

You weren't agreeing with the USA Today, even you should know that, you were agreeing with an opinion from a writer who graduated from the big 10. Maybe next you'll post an Aaron Craft quote and claim it proves your point.

And you're a troll, anyone who spends as much as you do asking why no one is talking about football in basketball threads has to be a troll or just too dense to read thread titles.

Whats your obsession with our football team? We are 1-8 and bad. No ISU fan thinks otherwise. You're just a typical squawk because Iowa is having such a powerhouse season this year and you think order has been restored and all is right in the world. Your powerhouse football team barely beat a TERRIBLE ISU team this year. Way to go!
