Somewhere in the U.S.
Over on HN, there's a thread showing each player's top scoring game. His point was to "get a better picture of the scoring potential on this roster". It's obviously debatable whether or not this means anything, but I think it at least adds something to the discussion, in terms of talent and potential. So, I wanted to post a quick comparison with our guys.

My thoughts:
- Iowa has played 11 games, while we've only had 7.
- Our top 8 can all score in bunches. Only the #1 spot is higher for Iowa.
- Olaseni's high was 10 before last night, which would skew the list even more towards ISU.
- Gesell and Woodbury are a solid 9/10, which I guess you can say makes them "deeper". How many good teams are playing their 9/10 players when it matters, though?
- I don't know anything about their bottom 4, but they haven't shown anything yet in scoring (feel free to correct me if they bring something else to the table). By my count, they have 10 "contributors". I think that Bluford, Edozie, and Gibson are capable of being "contributors", giving us 11. Note: Rereading this makes my homer-alert go off, but I'm going to leave it in :).

So, you're saying that the potential is there for the final score to be ISU 175, Iowa 169? Yeah, sounds about right. I could see that.

Oh...and Baylor just dunked again.........

Iowa's depth is only good for foul trouble. Past that I'd rather have a team go 8 deep than 11. Of course you want the option, but we have plenty of guys to keep the team fresh. The only issue is foul trouble for our bigs. We are deeper at guard than Iowa is.

What did I say in either post that you think is incorrect? ISU will end up having a better SOS when non conference is over

I'm curious why you think that? IA SOS is 52 today and ISU is 103. IA plays ISU which will improve IA's SOS. ISU plays IA which will improve their SOS. ISU then plays George Mason (5-4 RPI 158) and N. Illinois (3-4 RPI 279). ISU is Iowa's last non conference game.

I don't think George Mason and N. Illinois do much to help ISU's SOS.

ISU's SOS is 104, Iowa's is 105. Don't know where you got the 52 for Iowa. Iowa's will be ahead of ISU after Friday but then ISU plays George Mason and two other teams in a tournament on a neutral court which will move it up. After Friday Iowa only has Arkansas Pine-Bluff left for the non conf schedule

I was thinking this as well.... Personally I hate the "Baylor just dunked again" thing anymore. At first it was somewhat funny but after Baylor mud stomped ISU in football... the "Baylor just scored again" would be about equally humiliating. If Iowa wins I already know at least 2 friends of mine that will be claiming Iowa to win the national championship... Heck one of them already bet on it on the vegas line.

What is the Vegas line, didn't think it was out yet.

This one is an average of several different sites and has Iowa at 55 and ISU at 79 for SOS. Still don't think ISU's SOS is better than Iowa's by conference time.

They'll have some decent opponents in Hawaii so I think they will end up with a better non con SOS but we'll find out

It's funny how you insist that without knowing the basic facts - like who ISU has left to play...
