Is that a security guard/janitor hybrid?

I honestly feel that RV is going to UNC and he always has wanted too but now his parents are down for it.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Anybody who is reading into the fact that since he's in Vegas now that he has to pick them because he's afraid the town will shun him, is an idiot. Players do this kind of stuff all the time. Barnes did it, Alexander for Kansas did it, and plenty of other recruits have done it. The fact that Vaughn currently resides in Vegas has nothing at all to do with it. Kansas and Kentucky are out of it, and pretty sure that UNC is as well if he's cancelled his visit. If the guy was going to commit to UNC, he wouldn't cancel his visit out there the following week. We have a two-horse race between us, a school in one of the consistently best conferences in basketball with an always packed stadium and crazy fans, or UNLV, a school that plays in a joke of a conference and has literally dozens of fans at each game. Unless Kaffey getting hired as an assistant is all that matters to Vaughn, there's no way I see him picking UNLV. Yeah, they're bringing in a great class next year. But their guys are going to be all freshman and we won't know how good guys like Goodluck will be immediately. Iowa State, on the other hand, has Morris, Thomas, Hogue, Long, Nader, and Niang coming back to go along with guys that could be great at the collegiate level in McKay and Custer (who I think is going to be VERY good). Why wouldn't you pick ISU?! This is such a perfect fit for the guy.

I have not seen anyone say the the reason Vaughn would go to UNLV is he is afraid of being shunned. What we are saying is UNLV has an advantage because he is in their back yard, he plays at school that is supported by a UNLV booster, that school has a history of sending players to UNLV and just the fact that being down the road makes it easy for coaches to have access to Vaughn to develop a good relationship. They don't have to get on a plane or anything to interact with him.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

I haven't seen this take, but I haven't been able to read every post either.

I would be really surprised if RV chose UNC. Vaughn was the #2 rated recruit from MN. It's fairly well known that he always felt a little like 2nd fiddle to Tyus Jones here in MN. Most people think that's why RV went to Vegas for his senior year.

With Jones (& Okafor) going to Duke, they will be the heavy favorite in the ACC next year. I'd be surprised if Vaughn would want to put himself in a situation where he'd possibly be in Jones' shadow again, even though they'd be a different schools.

So you're saying he's not the "taking his talents to South Beach" kind?

Whatever he does, I just hope he does it with class. None of that fake them out with the other hat crap. This is an opportunity to demonstrate what kind of man you are...

It seems that if that was the case, his parents would have been on board a long time ago. He's since made a handfull-ish visits and that UNC trip was quite a while ago. Who knows.

He's eliminated Minnesota already right? That's the only real awful gut punch he could pull on people. I really won't be upset if it doesn't go ISU's way, the program with JP and CFH has done everything possible to win and improve, that's enough for me. I do honestly feel like ISU is as good a choice as any right now especially for guards who want to play in the NBA, which says a lot about the program and Hoiberg.

I'm more worried about UNC than UNLV for some reason, but I still think we are the favorite. The timing of his announcement that he will commit is awfully coincidental...

I'd even be more concerned about UK as a dark horse landing him over UNLV. Just my own hunches though. Vaughn isn't dumb. He wants to win a NC and he sees the s***storm that is UNLV's season. He will pick a blueblood that is in the NC hunt perennially, or he will pick us

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Hoopniks likes ISU chances...
Also a good quick summary and mixtape of RV's recruitment for those who are just catching up.

"Vaughn’s list of potential college suitors is said to include the Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas Jayhawks, Kentucky Wildcats, North Carolina Tar Heels, and UNLV Rebels. With that in mind, the only schools which Vaughn has officially visited at this point are Iowa State and UNLV.
As a junior, North Carolina was presumed by some to lead for Vaughn. At this point, however, it’s fair to say that Iowa State in the clubhouse favorite, given their status as an official visit recipient, as well as having recruited Vaughn as long as any anyone.

Recently named to the McDonalds’s All-American game, on the West team, Vaughn is a superb prospect. He is an effective scorer from all three levels, and has a smooth and strong overall game. He did miss a handful of games this season due to a minor knee injury, but reportedly has overcome that ailment. In short, when at the top of his game, Vaughn has no peer among the shooting guards in his class.

If Vaughn comes off the board as expected to Iowa State, it will continue an impressive run for the Cyclones, as of late. Coach Fred Hoiberg has the program running on all cylinders, as the addition of an elite prospect like Vaughn would continue the momentum of the program."

The early announcement is the best part of this whole saga... Even if it doesn't go our way, it gives us time to refocus on someone else for that scholarship spot.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

I just can't see UNC. Why would Vaughn cancel his official there for next week if he was going there? That just doesn't make sense. Same with KU and UK - unless he is planning to official to the one that he commits to later still. But I don't see it.

I'd be absolutely shocked if was anyone other than UNLV and ISU. That said, I am thinking it'll be UNLV.

Recruiting never makes sense but their is no logical reason he'd cancel his UNC visit if he was going to commit there this weekend.
