you misunderstood the entire point of my post. his job is not to give Iowa State University money from the athletic department, it is to run the athletic department in a way that allows us to break even or turn a small "profit". His goal is to ensure ISU athletics remains profitable enough to continue to operate: the Ford in your example. If he came out and cost the athletic department millions in losses or lost revenue he'd be gone. In that regard he has succeeded - more fans are in the seats and more fans are wearing ISU merchandise.
If we could win a NC and lose money we'd love it (the fans) but the school would hate it. If we went 3-9 every year and brought in millions in "profit" we'd hate it but the school would love it.
Which do you think is JP's number one goal? And only pick one.
You don't understand the fallacies of what you are saying. Or what i said. You are just regurgitating what is said at places in the top tier of revenue that are disappointed with a year of 8-4 or 7-5 and mad their AD will not hire their favorite candidate. ISU is not one of those. We are at the bottom.
We are not taking on debt and replacing facilities for ***** and giggles. JFC, ISU is damn near last in the P5 in revenue, yet you think JP and everyone are fine with just balancing the books? Get real. Have you heard the expression live to your means? JP was hired to grow those means. We are not the Ford, we are the cash starved start-up trying to compete with Ford. Withholding funds makes you more likely to fold up shop than see positive change.
Your pick one is flawed. We also do not expect him to cheat. If we won a NC and had a Title IX compliance issue he did not do his job. Having the books balanced is like asking for a college degree in the job listing. They could just as easily be unbalanced with 100 million as 25 million. The real choices of what JP is hired to do are a.) Keep our budget the same or b.) Increase our budget.
To think JP is going to be complacent is idiotic. The motivation that comes with worrying about not enough money and keeping things going in the right direction is a constant- fans do not need to protest with their wallets.
