Do I get to make a choice based in the modern world or do I have to take the Wayback Machine to choose from your past coaches?
Are we living in the moment or the past?
Give a realistic solution.

Give Paul the rest of this year. And then dismiss him.
If I may, one of the historic problems of ISU football is the acceptance of mediocrity. Put simply, it's seemingly ok to suck at ISU. We've done it for decades. IMO, that's probably one of the largest issues. I think that everyone latched on to CPR because he doesn't readily accept that and he does it in a brash way. It was refreshing...it was different...but like Mike Tyson says "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face". We've been punched in the face repeatedly for years.
CPR isn't going to win games on his own. Having a vision and being able to execute it might be beyond his ability. And if it is, that needs to be recognized and dealt with. He's far enough into his current job to have recruited kids who can get the job done and to know how to utilize them to do so. If we don't see this before the end of the year, Paul has to go and be replaced with someone who has a PROVEN record of success. If we're going to dump money into friggin seats in the south end zone, we should be willing pay a guy to get the job done in the corner office. Our cart is so far in front of the horse right now, I'm not sure the horse can see the cart...and JP is either in the cart, on the horse or wandering around aimlessly.
It sounds morbid, but I hope we go winless this year just to get the point across, loud and clear, about how bad we are. No more false hope from beating garbage teams in meaningless games.
Give a realistic solution.
3. If (big if) PR must go then I break the bank and overpay for an established coach.
The main issue with this point is that "people" will ask, if a coach is so established, why would they come to Iowa State? If there is an established guy he more than likely has offers from more traditional football schools.
Stormin...if you're trying to argue...it won't work. I didn't say to do anything blindly. I said give him the rest of the year. If he doesn't execute what is expected, he should be fired. That's what happens in both college athletics and in the real world...you execute the plan or someone else replaces you. You don't have to have a person in mind to replace him...but you clearly lay out the expectations and the ramifications.
I don't know who we should hire. I can't answer that question. But money talks...and my point is simple, if you put enough out there, someone will come.
If your solution is to give him more time and resources, I don't think anything will change and it will remain ok in Ames to have a crappy FB program. I know, I know, we won't have that feel good weekly story about the guy who grew up in the shadow of Trice...sometimes I think people in Iowa (Ames) are too nice.![]()
Why does the "history of Iowa State football" mean that we should be forever content with a ceiling of six wins per year?
We just need to find our own Bill Snyder. Someone go find us a Bill Snyder but one that's alive preferably.I hate to say this but I don't know if ISU can ever bring in a proven winner that could turn around the football program. It's sad but I think 6 wins every few years is about as good as it gets.

I've never seen a fan base lose it so bad after losing a game that they were only a 3.5 point favorite to win.
Sincerely,
Cool Story Bro
You guys are nuts. Rhoads is .667 in the last 3 games. That's awesome, right!?
Ok. I'll put on my amateur AD hat and give an answer that no one will like
1. PR is safe for 2014 *and* 2015. Why? The contract is an issue. I wouldn't want to eat that. Plus I'll have a shiny new SEZ to generate ticket sales next year
2. Bowl game or bust in 2015. Our fans are patient and realistic to a point. A trip someplace warm in December 2015 or it's time to part ways
3. If (big if) PR must go then I break the bank and overpay for an established coach. (Project: Johnny Orr) I say this because I feel the fan base is starting to sour on the "hope" sales pitch. The last "hot" coordinator hire didn't pan out either. I also can see a futue where the Power 5 leaves us behind without some kind of football success. The fan base will demand Ditka, but I will resist. Sage is on speed dial as my Project: Fred if I can't sell an established winner to relocate to Ames. (Half joking)
PR knows today that he must produce. The facilities are in place. We cannot have excuses or any losses to FCS schools. JP has tied his own hands with the current contract, but I believe PR will have 23 games to save his job. 1 loss doesn't make a season, but the pattern is disturbing
