If you want CPR gone, who do you want to be hired to replace him?

It might be our best chance at being competitive.

We're trying to do what everyone else is doing with way worse recruits.

Kansas State is competitive running the same offense as the rest of the Big 12. Last year Duke was nearly excellent running the spread in the ACC. Iowa was competitive with Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, etc. near the beginning of Kirk Ferentz's era running similar stuff to the rest of the Big 10.

Our best bet is continuity with the coaching staff we have in place. Some of you might be to stupid to see it, but this is one of the most talented rosters Iowa State has ever had. There is experience on offense, but it's a whole new staff there and they will get better in the system every week. The defense also has a few new faces, but the biggest thing there is there is barely any experience. The team will learn more every week and start to get to the point where they are reacting rather than over thinking. If this staff stays in place next year, we will be a real good team.

Since there is a thread titled "CPR has to go" and multiple posters disgruntled with him, I was curious if those who want him gone at the end of the season would say who they would like to be hired to replace him?

Finally, a voice of reason.

Or some people might employ blind faith. David Cutcliffe took over Duke in 2008 last year they achieved a 10 win season. We have not even sniffed anything close to that 1 winning season in 5 years, is pretty poor.

Good to see we are already starting the wait til next year mantra. You might be right maybe the CEO finally hired the right guys for the job, but nothing thus far has indicated this program will achieve even an 8 win season anytime soon.

Reanalyze KSU.

The ACC, besides FSU last year, was pretty weak overall. Duke had a good team, but you put them in the Big12 and they end up at about 8 wins. They had good wins against Miami and VTech. The other wins were NCCU, Memphis, Troy, Navy, Virginia, NCState, Wake, and North Carolina.

An outside the box hire would be Ken Niumatololo of Navy. Navy has been a consistent bowl team under him and it would be fun to see that style of offense in Ames.

That would definitely be interesting, but the 2-3 seasons it would take to recruit the right kind of players for that offense would be ROUGH.

I agree completely continuity is the best option. Really the only thing I fault CPR in is the OC's he has chosen to this point. Herman's offense IMO was not a fit here due to the fact you need a uniquely gifted QB to run it successfully. Messingham was a total whiff, and set the program back two years. I think there could be a huge payoff for us if Mangino is who we think he is.

There is no doubt in my mind that the attitude of the program is completely different. We are a more physical and competitive football team compared to years past. I think CPR has the right mindset, and with the right OC to match Wally's good work I think we can turn a corner.

Paul was really handicapped by not being a HC prior to coming to ISU, and not having a staff he had worked with and developed. We have a smart, passionate Coach who loves ISU. We are going to have to take the lumps with him as he grows into the HC position.

Reanalyze KSU.

KSU's is more of a power run based spread than most Big 12 teams. I think Rhoads is starting to reach more for that now.

Point still stands though that it's the same general formations, etc. Doing something different is often beneficial more so from a recruiting standpoint than from a defeating superior talent standpoint.

The two go hand-in-hand.

They do but long-term it makes less of a difference depending on the offense a coach is going for and the ability of a coach to recruit players for that system. Rhoads has struggled recruitingbig physical backs on offense, as well as big physical lineman. I think in his early years he wanted the offense to be very speed focused. Since he's realized he can't be successful only focusing on speed in recruiting.

If the guys perform, then we can argue seriously that it's our most talented team. Right now, there may be the potential for that to be true, but they have to prove it on the field. Until that happens, there isn't real evidence that it's our most talented team, or that anyone is stupid for having questions about a program struggling to find its way to a couple of wins.

That doesn't mean that this team can't or won't get there. They just have to go prove it on the field.

Not really true. There are tons of examples of assistant coaches getting their first HC job and gathering an effective, cohesive group of assistants.

Young team with talent. They will continue to get better. And as they get more experience they will get better.

Like last year, and maybe win a game or two at the end.
Then there will be some unexpected attrition, likely some staff changes, and graduating our best OL, DL, LB, TE, RB, and WR and we start the process over again next fall. CPR is becoming the GMac of football.

Sorry not buying what you are selling, there isn't that much difference between the Big 12 and ACC in terms of strength
TCU, Kansas, Texas has been weak last few years, Texas Tech is nothing special.

Both conference had 1 really good teams, a couple of decent teams, the rest punching bags. When Mizzou, A &M and Nebraska left the conference got weaker, and we have not improved at all.
