If you want CPR gone, who do you want to be hired to replace him?

Exactly. Chizik, who actually had a lot of coaching experience and had a decent eye for talent, was the flash/name approach. We need a guy that knows how to grind his way to wins, and more importantly knows how to get players to do the same. In terms of recruiting, finding guys that will compete and develop themselves is more important than signing a better athlete that is still not as good as what the Big 12 gets.

I thought CPR had a chance to be that guy with him finding a guy like Knott in his first few weeks, hiring a guy like Wally, and shaping up the players Chizik and Mac recruited/developed. But it is clear he chases the wrong things to often in both recruiting and offensive schemes, and as a staff did not make tough teams. His recruiting reminds me too much of Mac's downfall once he got in scramble mode.

Has it ever occurred to you that he realizes that and will he'll improve in those areas, or is it simply too late for him to fix stuff?

This. If Sage is interested in coaching, he should go the Kliff Kingsbury route. If he is a bright as people say, he will quickly rise through the ranks.

Exactly. It's great if he wants to coach, but if he does he needs to get started by you know, coaching. I'm sure if he went back to school he'd get a GA job easily. Otherwise he could even start out coaching high school for a year or two.

Is this a serious question? Year 6 is pretty late to be learning and reformulating how to build a program.
Do you think the purpose of the ISU HC position is to prove guys cannot get it done?

Ask any good coach, teacher, CEO, farmer, etc. in the country and they'll tell you they are always learning and reformulating how they do things.

Who said otherwise?

We are not talking about maintaining your success with continued education and self-evaluation.
You won't find any good farmers in Year 6 needing to learn how to grow wheat in the middle of North Dakota because their rice paddy just never worked out.

So when is it not too late then? Year 3, year 4? Just trying to get a gauge here of when I should have been upset he hadn't figured it out yet.

What it comes down to for me is if recruiting begins to suffer then it's time for him to go. Until then he can afford another disappointing season if it appears the changes are in place that show hope for the future.

To all the people calling me an idiot for Kiffin: he has a better record than Rhoads. He can recruit. Rhoads could never recruit. Also, who cares if he only coaches here for 3-4 years before moving elsewhere? He will put us in a better position and win more games than that loser Rhoads of ours. Too many people are accepting being the worst of the conference and think there's nobody that can make this team better. That's a lousy attitude. I, for one, am ready for change. I guess a bunch of you love losing as it's clear by your attitudes and not wanting Rhoads fired because he's a "good guy". Being a "good guy" doesn't win games as evidenced by his 27-38 career record.

Kiffin is a terrible head coach. Terrible. Terrible hire by anyone in the country.
He's had to leave or been fired at top tier programs because he cannot coach a lick.

Six years and counting. Looks like he has eight more contract years.

An outside the box hire would be Ken Niumatololo of Navy. Navy has been a consistent bowl team under him and it would be fun to see that style of offense in Ames.

If CPR left on his own or otherwise, the old Coach from NDSU would be a very good hire. Consistent staff and system. Look at what Jerry Kill has done with Minnesota. They may not be world beaters but they are a whole different team than under Brewster.

NIU is still living off of what Kill built (or rebuilt). Regardless of ones thoughts on CPR, when it comes time to find the next coach, i hope the AD looks for a guy like Kill.
