I definitely won't meltdown because Fred left, but the frustrating thing for me is that Fred used ISU as a stepping stone job.

Now I may meltdown depending on who we hire as the new coach.

@TravisHines21: Seems to be quite a bit of concern about how the Hoiberg & NBA rumors are “hurting recruitingâ€￾ for ISU. Let’s explore http://t.co/1swVlAdRDc

His article seems to indicate Fred had aspirations to move on after this year or next year to the pros. I do not see much to indicate that he was waiting for his boys to graduate from high school. This article makes me think his whole intent was to be a pro coach after all.

this does not square with your previous post stating you hope his will fail and comparing him to a cheating spouse.

I won't be rooting for him if he goes to the NBA. Reason #1... I freaking hate the NBA. Watching a bunch of overpaid guys play H-O-R-S-E isn't my cup of tea. Reason #2... he signed a 10 year contract last year to coach the Iowa State Cyclones. He made a commitment and he won't fulfill his side of the deal. He used the NBA speculation to get himself a raise and then in 1 year bails? If the ISU program ends up tanking after he leaves being compared to a cheating spouse will be pretty tame compared to what most fans will think of him.

it was a bad analogy and it should be called out as a bad analogy.

I'll make sure to let you know when you don't make a spot on perfect analogy. It will be easy because non of them are perfect, that's why they're an analogy, not the same exact scenario.

So as best as I can surmise here is just a few of the things reported today, some of which, allegedly, came from people in the know that may have not exactly been accurate

1) Pollard skipped the Tailgate because he had to be back in Ames to deal with Hoiberg departure announcement. (It was later discovered he had a medical appointment to follow up on his recovery from his heart attack and could not attend due to this and even if he could probably did not want to deal with questions he had not definitive answers to.)

2) Players were flying back to Ames, like troops hitting the beaches of Normandy. It was a massive return of epic proportions so they could be here and be told face to face Fred was leaving. (It was later determined the cost of flights was like $1000 so all could not get back. But a new rumor is Fred skyped them, to say see ya.)

3) Paige Hoiberg chose Kansas because she knew that her dad was not going to coach at ISU this year and did not want to deal with all the fallout. (It was later determined ISU did not offer her major so she chose to go to KU instead)

4) Today was going to be the day that Hoiberg was announcing he was leaving, despite the fact no other media outlet mentioned anything about Thibs being traded to another team so that Fred actually had a position to go to.
To add a twist perhaps its not the Bulls where Fred will end up. The drama.

What other things did people see posted? Ya know this probably drags out til the NBA draft..

:)

So you agree that a coach leaving a program is just like a spouse cheating on you? You are seriously going to defend that ********?

Our little FredGate 2015 debacle seems to be yet another irrational two-party debate. Believe it or not there is a middle ground (between the "Burn Fred's 'House For Sale' Sign" Party and the "Let's pledge eternal allegiance to wherever he may go" Party)!

So regardless of the direction of Fred's decision I think each and every one of us here on CF could do ourselves a massive favor for our emotional and mental well being and have ourselves a light read before bed tonight.

Note: If the following link is tl;dr for some, just pay close attention to section #6:

The part that I would be most upset about if he leaves isn't the fact that he left. It is the things he has said that have made it sound like ISU is the place he wants to be for a long time and the goals he wanted to achieve while at ISU. I guess I have always thought Fred was a guy you could take at his word. He is no better than any other of the coaches. That and the idea that if you cannot keep him in Ames, who can you keep.

I don't think the analogy was about Fred cheating as much as it was that it made these posters feel like jilted lovers.

I get around
In the spirit of looking forward, I am all of sudden interested in the Chicago vs Phoenix games next year.

In the spirit of looking forward I might be interested in a Phoenix game next year, but not one against Chicago.

Bingo. Ready this article from last year: http://t.co/

"Hopefully I'm here a long time."

We love Fred, but those quotes will sting if he leaves.
