Hayden Fry (pukes in mouth a little). What he did with a doormat program is the reason their fans are now delusional and we hate them so much.

When I was a kid I grew up idolizing the Hawkeyes...Mainly because I grew up in Eastern Iowa and I didn't know any better. Regardless, B.J. Armstrong was my favorite player in B-Ball and then when the 1990 FB team went to the Rose Bowl I really liked Merton Hanks (which was awesome because I was also a huge 49ers Fan!)

Bert Bielema. Hey, if you can be THAT big of a meathead and make the living he has, I just have to tip my cap.

Throw me down for Steve Carfino or a young Bobby Hanson

I went to a lot of Hawk bball games in the 1990s....I met Jason Bauer once and he was super kind and I just looked up and he's the VP at Grace View in DM.

Aaron Kampman is another top notch person. Played ball in hs vs him and have always been impressed with his kindness. I remember a story he dunked it in high school and his dad chewed him out for doing it. I have a friend that knows him personally and shared that he had to basically hire a "no" man while in NFL as he'd give so much money away.

Steve Alford. He had great hair. Both on and off the court.

Perkyforherky. He is dumber than a box of rocks but keeps on shining. The rest who cares.

When I first saw the thread title, I thought the OP was going to propose a 4 day truce with the hawkeyes with no smack. Good thing that's not what the thread was about.

In light of Tyler Sash's passing, I thought I would mix things up a little bit today. Which Former Hawkeye have you always respected, whether on the Field or Off of it? I was always a fan of Fred Russell. For being a little dude he could always motor it up and down the field with the best of them.

Mine was Calvin Jones---a total stud. Would be interesting to see where he'd play today and how big he would be, but pound for pound, he was an animal.

Greg Bruner. Iowa's version of Jared Homan, who is one of my all time favorites. Guy busted his butt.

Dan Gable, technically a Cyclone too but mostly a Hawkeye. Also grew up idolizing all sorts of Iowa wrestlers and BJ Armstrong was my favorite basketball player. I actually have a lot of respect for Kirk Ferentz, think he's overly bashed by their fan base and our own. Tom Davis obviously is respected by about everybody.

Haha! Jason is from my HS, Great guy! Was a Grey Shirt who ended up starting for Dr. Tom because he busted his *** and didn't turn the ball over. Aaron Kampman was also a GREAT guy. My HS had a pretty big rivalry with AP at the time, but he was literally one of the nicest guy you'd ever meet. I graduated the same year as him and played B-Ball and ran track against him. I remember running the 4x200m with him running the same leg as me. I could never quite understand how a guy that big was running a 200m sprint!

Also, Norm Parker. His defense was the main reason behind Ferentz's success, in my opinion.
