People keep forgetting that we're not losing 100% Naz who makes game winners. We're losing 60% Naz who was in pain and it caused his defense and scoring to be less than his best. Yes, the depth hurts. Let's give Thomas and Cooke and chance here to step up.
This team will rebound just like we do in games we're down. Gotta stand by our guys.
We can still win games without him. He only had 6 points vs iowa. So it's not the end of the world.
We'll see. I'd put the odds at well over 75% that he doesn't play in another game for Iowa State.
CW discussed this on the radio too.
Those guys don't necessarily speculate. Usually they know something. And honestly, this was one of the first things I thought of too.
Maybe Naz will go wherever TJ ends up next year.

Iowa State will miss Naz Mitrou-Long for his leadership and vocal presence as much as anything else. Matt Thomas more than capable of making shots. Hallice Cooke will also need to step up. What I don't understand if why Long made an announcement now. Could have sat for a month and seen if felt better. Gotta wonder if he will graduate and try and play elsewhere next year.

Is it just me or is this just stupid speculation from someone who is clueless?
Glad Hallice Cook seems to have recovered well from his.
It wouldn't be a good Panic if jsb wasn't engineer of the crazy train.
Seriously, just shut up and get off the board. Your glass half empty approach on everything ISU related gets really old and it's certainly not needed or wanted at this moment (or ever). Do all of us a favor and quit being a whiny little *****
This is a legit reason to panic.
Hell, I'm not the publisher of this board who is apparently on the radio saying that there is a chance that he'll transfer to another school to play next year.
I too am hoping for a full recovery. He needs to be healthy to enjoy a full life. Wondering what the normal recovery for this type of surgery is and what is the usual prognosis. Also, I don't see him going anywhere next year. There will be a lot of minutes available and we should be pretty decent esp if MM returns. Based on the quality of our bench, would think that someone will take a step up and provide some good minutes. We need a bit more depth, even w our longer bench starting next game.My heart goes out to this kid. He's given us everything, and you know it's killing him to not be able to compete and play out this season with guys he calls his brothers. This is the nature of sports, and we have guys who can step up (Thomas, Burton, and Cooke), but we will miss Naz's leadership and clutch shooting ability. Wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in an ISU uniform next year.
The rest of the team may have to step up with energy and leadership. A seven man rotation with Burton and Nader off the bench is still darn good. Biggest issue will be if somebody else goes down, or if guys start getting in foul trouble. Simeon Carter and Jordan Ashton may be able to provide some minutes, but it's kind of hard to tell since they've only played garbage time so far.
This is a legit reason to panic.

You know you are in deep **** when John Walters tweets not to rest on Jordan Ashton.![]()
Oh I'll completely concede your points b and c. But you started with an unequivocal declaration that the NCAA would not grant the medical redshirt and backed it up with "Because that is how these things go". Not only did Yelk get the medical hardship waiver, he ALSO got the exponentially more rare 6th year of eligibility.Look if you want to believe that a) the NCAA will grant the redshirt, b) that Naz will be healthy enough to play, and c) that he will even want to play without pretty much everyone other than Matt Thomas who he has been at Iowa State with, then go right ahead.
