The umpteen holding penalties by the oline were the result of the oline being inept. Fifty yards rushing is mickey mouse for a game.
Yeah but I'm not sure that is an issue with coaching as much as not having people who should be playing the line.

Some of the holding penalties were awfully weak too. Not that that is an excuse.

I expect the penalties to get much better going forward.

He didn't call a timeout to ice the kicker, he called it because he thought they were running a fake FG

I think we're just tired of coming out in the first game of the season and (what feels like) almost always looking far less prepared than our FCS opponent. I can't back this up, but it sure feels like UNI had far better fundamentals.

Willing to give Campbell more time, but sure didn't meet my expectations.

Ehh...I think the penalties are at least partially on the coaches. Obviously not entirely, but that was not a well organized team yesterday. Just in general, I thought the team looked panicked and not especially well prepared. That's on the coaches.

Calling a timeout right after UNI did is on coaching. We could have used that timeout after Warren's fumble. Trying to ice a short FG or whatever in the hell he was trying to do was on coaching.

And the thing about this is that it wasn't his first game. That was the beauty of hiring him. He's done all of that. One could say that it is on a different level, except his opponent wasn't. It wasn't like we were throwing him out there against Oklahoma or TCU or the Vampire.

Like I've said, I don't think they were as awful as they appeared last night.
Brother I get it that penalties are bad, but I've coached for way to many years and I never coached a player to hold... wait I did inside at the numbers. When my players were caught holding it was for 1 of 3 reasons. 1] they were over matched 2]a defensive stunt fooled them 3] they were a dumbass and I had no one better to put in. A coach can fix 2, maybe 3. #1, NO!

Last night someone wrote that a "s-stormisbrewing"

Really was the post of the night. Think it was removed. Maybe for profanity, but it was a hall of fame observation

I think there was a hawk fan that posted it a few times, or was at least repeating it. Probably had that one saved in his back pocket all summer.

I always love this attitude. Lon Kruger said it best one time. "If a player from the opposing team hits a game winner I got out coached but if he misses it I out coached the other guy" Makes sense.

That's not what I was implying. Even if Iowa St found some way to stop uni from scoring the go ahead score, and won the game, I would still say Campbell was out coached. Not necessarily a bad thing, and to me, doesn't mean anything going forward, but you can't honestly say Campbell was the better coach out there.

He should ditch the watch and wear a chainsaw. Would be way cooler and intense. And it's a "Campbell" thing already.

I don't know honestly. I mean we had four turnovers to their one. I don't think it's quite cut and dry to say that. When Hoiberg made Bill Self play zone in the Big 12 tournament it's pretty easy to see that Hoiberg out coached him that game. Last night seemed kind of fluky to me. I don't think anyone can say Campbell out coached Farley but I'm not sure I can say he got out coached either

The only reason to look at fitbit every fifteen seconds was to check blood pressure. He seemed to be on zanax on the sideline. No one talked to him. He was in space. Weird sideline compared to our past coaches.
He is a "(eyes on) hands on" kind of coach.

Maybe checking to see if Papa Johns would still deliver? Game drug on - it felt like an eternity in my section. Team is not good - wont be better. 0-12 is looking likely. No O line means zero rushing game. Sorry for Warren/Lazard - they deserve better.

MAYBE he was comparing his watch with the game clock or the play clock or MAYBE he was timing how long it took to get plays in or some other football type thing.

But since we lost, probably like some of you are claiming since it fits with the story you want to believe and you are incapable of changing your tiny little minds.

I completely agree about the fundamentals. That's one of those things that happens with coaching continuity, track record of success, consistent recruiting and coaching and development of players at their highest level. Meanwhile we had over 40 kids at their first ISU camp and have a grand total of like 15 practices under their belt?

Good god some of you are NOT equipped for so many things in life that take time, work, effort and patience.

Aside from the decision to run where we fumbled and not being able to count to 11 coaching wasn't really an issue. At least for the first game of a new coach.

Apparently you didn't see Warren and Ryen run into each other at full speed - behind the line of scrimmage - and knock each other out of the game?

Did you like the running game? It was exceptional - if you don't mind a bad before the exceptional. This is #beyondAHotMess.
