This box score and Solomon's line is absolutely gorgeous...

He was our leading scorer tonight. Talk about a balanced offense.

I always thought this team was one Big 12-level big man from being very good, if not on par with the teams from Georges' sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Looks like we might have that, and then some.

Seeing a big guy who who just does those little garbage disposal things...

-- plays good post defense
-- boxes people out like he means it
-- fights on the boards
-- catches balls thrown to him... I cannot count the number of times I have seen balls go off Holden's hands of stone into the crowd this year...
-- is active around the rim for easy put backs
-- has himself in position for easy feeds from our talented, experience guards for dunks
-- challenge shots around the rim... he blocked a few, but I could tell K-State had to change its approach to going to the basket with him around
-- just those few things from him were probably worth 20 points tonight
-- if you are going to foul somebody, foul in a context that makes sense... preventing an easy lay-up, for instance... or make sure they feel it when you do
-- we probably go our first points from rim-running this season this game, too
-- being a badass mofo rockin' the Pistons bad boys headband
-- all this without even one offensive set run for him and the guards not really looking to feed him on the block, even if he was working hard for position the whole time
-- seems we have ourselves the reincarnation of Melvin Ejim here in a bigger body
-- nor much for back-to-the-basket post moves, which I am sure they will work on with him

This team's ceiling is WAY higher for just having one guy like that. Unfortunate that it took this long with Solomon's inexperience and injury early in the year, but I am super glad we are going to have a returning starter for next year and something of what we really needed to round out this roster to finish this season to push into the big dance, in Kansas City, and in the tournament itself. Our guards plus one competent big man is going to be a really nasty out at a #7 or #6 seed or something like that if we keep this up.

I agree, it gives us a completely different dynamic now that teams need to prepare for. You could really see him coming into his own during the Kansas game. I dont think he scored alot but you could tell his presence out there was at least affecting shots which is more than we had with Holden or Bowie.

Bowie's suspension might have been the turning point in our season.

Not to stir up another Fred v. Prohm flame war...

You get players good however you can -- high school, prep school, undergraduate transfers, JUCOs, graduate transfer, I do not really care where.

That being said, it will be nice to...

Watch a young player blossom and grow into manhood (again).

Fred's emphasis on transfers and lack of recruiting his last two years in Ames kind of slowed that down, though he did give us the careers of Melvin Ejim, Georges Niang, Monté Morris (hang #3, #31, and #11), Naz Mitrou-Long, and Matt Thomas to watch.

Watching Solomon grow and improve over the next three years, as well as Long and the other four freshmen coming in next year, is going to be a pleasure.

Fred had success in his ways, but I am going to enjoy watching young players come in, improve, and mature in this kind of way again. We missed that the past few years.

It works for Wisconsin. Sometimes you need to make your own grown *** men.

Watching an ISU big man follow shots(offensive) to the rim, and score on tip-ins, is a breath of fresh air. That simple act saved ISU tonight. Way to go Solomon.

Dude's got legit instincts. Very hard to coach that in a big man. TJ left us a gift!

I know it seems like Solomon should have started weeks ago, but I think we have to give a nod to the process that Prohm made him go through to get to this point. Nothing good comes easy and we have pretty darn good team right now.
agreed with the starting.. But weeks ago he was barely getting minutes and monte wouldn't event look at him. I'm sure he's gotten better but some of the games when we were chucking brick after brick and no one would pass to him except Donovan or babb once or twice a blue moon.

He should have probably had at least 6-10 more points. There were a lot of times that he either pick and rolled or just got to the open spot down low and the guys didn't feed him the ball.

He looked like a veteran tonight!

He had 16pts by the time I was able to watch the remainder of the game. Got very excited, as I thought, "man, he finally got the rock on some of those pick-n-rolls". Doesn't sound like that is the case. All "lunch pail/hard hat" buckets? Even more impressive.

Seems to be handling it well. Not many would with that many missed opportunities. Assume he knows it all changes next year. He's going to be fun to watch when he becomes an integral part of the offense

They easily left another 6-8 points for him by missing open looks down low.

Literally everything he got were hustle plays on the offensive boards, catching a few balls that hit him in the gut when the defense collapsed on a driving guard for a dunk or lay-up, and then just hustle in running from rim-to-rim for good looks.

Like others and I have said, the spirit of Melvin Ejim is strong in this one.

I hope Jackson and Wigginton have their eyes up on this guy next year. Both when they drive and when he rolls hard to the basket on the pick-and-roll. He has good hands and he is a huge target that I am sure no rotating defender wants to get in front of. He will "make" plenty for himself in cleaning up trash inside and on the rim, too.

Solomon may have well been a young Ejim tonight. Played tough. Gobbled up rebounds. Garbage buckets. Got a bunch of points even though the offense didn't run through him.

I know, you were calling for him to play two months before Prohm played him. Might have gotten us to a decent seed.
