2nd round. The play in games should properly be termed the 0th round of the tournament.

They're finally back to calling that the First Four.
The broadcasts, scoreboards, and gametrackers are showing "First Round" again for the Thursday/Friday games, as it always should be.

You know what is sadder than Clone fans talking about all the squawk trolls they encountered when trying to interact with Purdue fans on a Purdue board in an ISU thread? It's squawk fans that are on a Cyclone board in a thread about the upcoming Purdue/ISU game rather than talking with their own about their own team's march to a "National Championship".

I came to give my thoughts on Purdue and how they matchup with ISU and even predicted an ISU win.

I am guessing I have watched Purdue more than most ISU fans so thought I could add something.

And any Iowa fan claiming that we are marching to a "National Championship" this year is a complete moron.

Any time you want to go back to doing that, you are welcome to.

Swanigan is really good and he will get his. But ISU has superior guard play and as long as Young can hold his own and stay out of foul trouble it's a good matchup for the Cyclones.

No guarantees in March, but as draws go this is about as favorable as we could hope for.

Swanigan is a stud and Mathias or Cline hurting us with a some 3's but I love this matchup and think they have a much harder time defending us than we do them

Am I the only one that thinks Young will do okay against Swanigan, Young has shown some good strength lately. Young is all of 240 also.

I was thinking the same thing. Obviously, Swannigan is going to put up some decent numbers because he's huge and exceptionally skilled. But Young has good instincts when it comes to positioning and he's a solid 240 and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Swannigan will at least have to work down low. He will take/make midrange and three-point shots, but he's not super quick, so just get a hand up and stay in front. Swannigan also has a tendency to get very frustrated and bark at his teammates (he's often right because they don't just give him the damn ball and get out of the way).

For Purdue, Edwards seems like the X factor. I'm assuming Naz will get that assignment?

It seemed like Vermont got plenty of open threes last night, but many of those were with the stretch 4/5. Burton has to step into those with confidence. No jab steps, no one-dribble pullups. Set your feet and let it fly.

We play solid D, it will come down to keeping burton/young out of foul trouble. I hope it rains 3s like, even letting Solo take a couple to draw their bigs out.

I live in Ames, a couple blocks from Hilton and my brother lives in West Lafayette, a few blocks from Mackey Arena. We are both transplants to our respective towns and have never gone to either school. We both cheer for our "hometown" team and both will usually cheer for the others team. With that being said, F Purdue. I hope Deonte slams a monster dunk on Haas' ogre head and does the Shawn Kemp on his face. CYCLONE POWER BABY!

(Fast forward to :30)

It seemed like the ball screen defense wasn't nearly as crisp as it has been. Several times the hedge was poor or the post defender screened off his own teammate. Hopefully they will get back to solid two man D tomorrow night.

After researching Purdue a bit, they aren't at all what I thought. We play similar tempos. We're very similar in three point shooting. I keep hearing that they play bad 3 point defense but they actually only allow opponents to shoot 32.5% which ranks 56th in the nation. That's pretty good.

This game isn't the massive clash of styles that I thought.

And I read that they knock down 41% of their 3's. That's good shooting; I'm sure it's aided by inside-outside passing as teams pay attention to their (really) bigs.

That's why I think Solomon/Bowie/Burton's defense will be a big key to the game. Purdue has 6 players that made 30 plus threes this season so double teaming in the post will be risky but necessary if they can't handle Swanigan/Haas down low.

The game will come down to outside the arc..If we have 2 or more guys hitting 3's and their guards continue to be inconsistent from 3 then I like or chances. If Purdue is hitting 3's then that could spell trouble..
