You doing RAGBRAI?

I don't know. I'm pretty tempted to jump on for a couple/few days as long as I could get my car moved between stops. At first I didn't think I would but I'm getting in shape better than I thought I would so I'm tempted to hop on for a day or few. I've got to call a guy and make sure some work I'm supposed to do for him doesn't fall into that week.

Question: do any of you have "work spouses"? My last work wife left a couple of years ago and I have not found a suitable replacement. (and before any of you misinterpret this, google "work spouse", nothing sexual or even romantic)

My real wife knew my previous 2 work wives and she just asked me if my co-worker who backs me up when I'm out of the office is my new work wife. Close, but not quite yet.

Anyone else have a similar work relationship?
I used to have a 2nd wife in the neighborhood. Her husband is a volunteer fireman so when he was training to be an officer he wasn't home much. When Mrs.JCyclonee was pregnant, we used to go to church together and come driving back with people staring at us. We also used to plan meals together and she'd boss me around, just as much, if not more than, Mrs. JCyclonee. Alas, times have changed and the fire has dimmed and I no longer see her as a second wife.

Here's a tangential note. For our upcoming trip, 5 families will be sharing one house. Every husband makes jokes about key parties and every wife gives her husband dirty looks every time the jokes are made but laughs when the other husbands make the jokes.

Honestly, if you can't joke about banging your friends' spouses, why bother having them as friends?

Our best friends and us have a running joke that we must have done the ol' swap-hookup one night. Their daughter has blond hair, fair skin and blue eyes (like me, although my hair has gotten more brown over the years) and our daughter is darker complected, with brown eyes and brown hair (like my friend).

I have a work wife in our billing department. She has a lightning quick sense of humor that has just the right mix of intelligence and randomness, with a touch of crudeness. If there is an issue that needs a quick resolution, we attack it like a couple bulldogs.

We took a walk last night around the neighborhood last night and we came across a group of neighbors out on their driveway playing guitars and singing and drinking. My daughter had to stop and listen for awhile. They waved us over and I ended up having a beer and singing Southern Cross.

Random and ******* awesome.

@BCClone, CSA pretty much what NWICY said. Veggies for people like me too lazy and inexperienced to grow much of a garden. Also a way to try new things like say, salad turnips.

Though I did plant some tomatoes this year and have a little basil pot. I ended up getting three things of tomato plants cause I wanted cherry ones and the first place had none but I had gotten one and then didn't want to return it. Dh is like how many plants did you get? I'm like well, it was 3 things but each thing has 4 little pods so.............12? You can't really just buy a single little pod. And I planted them all in like a 6-8ft sq region. They're getting big. I'm ok if they choke each other out a bit cause we probably don't need that many tomatoes.

Without knowing the actual answer: for me the organ music made me sick. I had to stand in the lobby sometimes even farther if the speaker volume was loud.

Then the general, 'I'm sick, don't feel well' stuff.

Last week deadlines kept me from exercising. I have gone three days in a row so far. Nicely hurting.

I think we might have most of the allergy stuff out of the house...hopefully. I need a new disinfectant since the bleach wipes I have been using seem to be an issue.

I love bruschetta and we made it last weekend - delish with the fresh basil on it. I look forward to making more of it. Maybe dabble with our own spaghetti sauce with all these tomatoes.
You can make fresh salsa every week. We grow more tomatoes than we need as well. My son loves them and will go out and steal them whenever Mrs. Velo is picking them. He'll eat two or three of the big ones at a time just munching them like an apple.

You can also dice and freeze your surplus for your fall and winter chili.

I tried making spaghetti sauce once and I set back US/Italy relations two decades. It was runny and horrible. I'll attempt it again someday, but, until then, I support our local Italian restaurants by buying their packaged sauces at the grocery store.

You may be using the wrong varieties of tomatoes for your sauce. Pretty common varieties that work well for salsa and sauces are the romas. They are very fleshy so your concoctions don't end up too runny.

<Edited so it doesn't look like a 3rd grader wrote it.:oops:>

one of the set of four are Romas, that's what my mom always used for sauce/juice.

we don't do salsa much but we do use a lot of canned diced tomatoes. If I could freeze them, that would be fantastic. I don't have all the stuff to do canning.

Also make sure you never have burgers this summer without fresh tomato slices on the table. Once they start bearing we rarely have a lunch or dinner without tomatoes on the table.

You gonna get yo lycopene this summer!
