Same argument for selling CMC as a hire for the Browns. He's a great coach, but can you sell Browns season tickets based on hiring away a college coach from Iowa State?

Who was the last NFL coach hired from college that had any success as a head coach in the NFL?
Bill O'Brien coached a few years at Penn State, but he was an NFL guy before that. Pete Carrol was in the NLF, then college, then back to the NFL.
Chip Kelly was the last one I can remember that went from college to the NFL. He had minor success and then imploded. Hell even Nick Saban flamed out in the NFL.
College guys get hired on as coordinators, but rarely do they hire a head coach straight out of college and give him the reigns of an NFL team. And I don't see Campbell leaving ISU to be an OC in the NFL for a few years before being a head coach.

The NFL is a completely different game than college football.

That HC for the Ealges was coaching high school ball 10 years ago! Maybe the Browns will pass on Campbell and go straight for the DSM Dowling coach

Where would he go?

He seems to be the type of guy that builds a program. Not the type that would be interested in taking over someone else's established success.

Plus he's a midwest guy so moving to the coast or down south would be a huge change for him and his family.

I suppose anything is possible with time and as we age our priorities change.
However, I don't see a Power 5 program in the midwest that is more attractive than what we have to offer him in Ames with the current ISU fanbase. He's just getting started here in my opinion.

I'd be less worried about a NCAA job and more about a NFL gig. This NFL "insider" thinks the Browns should go after him. He also gets a nice dig in at Ferentz later in the thread.

For the record, Allbright sucks. Ask other Broncos fans.

Just guessing here, but CMC won't consider leaving until he dominates the Hoks and wins a conference championship. Let's remind him how well Gene Smith treated Coach Mac in the end, and the so-called friction between Meyer and Smith. Hoks want him gone and my Hok friends say CMC will only be here another year. To that I say "one can only hope." Really messes them up. I'm also guessing that Smith is on the hot seat and might not last at OSU either. Too much turmoil for a coach who wants to do things the right way.

If OSU comes calling, he’s gone.

The “stay here and build something special” is coach speak to get recruits. OSU isnt firing Urban, the only concern is he’ll leave for health reasons and retire.

What if ISU finds the means to pay him 5 million per year or is able to match or come close to what OSU is offering, would he leave then?

It is up to Pollard to figure out a way to make the math work if it is simply a decision of money.

He grew up an OSU fan, it wouldnt even be about money to go coach his dream job, IMO. If it is about money, then we’re even less likely to keep him, They’re a bottomless pit of cash.

Imagine ISU is a top 5 blue blood football program. You’re an up and coming coach that moved out of state to build up Indiana. Things are going great and you love it there. ISU comes calling and offers double the money. Tell me why you wouldn’t leave.

I'm curious to see how Vrabel does over the next couple of years. If he doesn't flame out, yet doesn't have so much success that his seat gets warm I could see OSU making a big push for him if Meyer sticks around a couple more years.

I think Urban is going to do what he can to stick around a while. You'd have to think this is his last stop. I don't think he's going to want his last season to include a suspension and missing out on the CFP (assuming that happens).

If it’s about the money we would have a chance, if we want to. They have more, but their cost of replacement is lower and at a certain level they’ll go elsewhere with their dollar.

If it’s about moving to the dream job, we wouldn’t. But is it his dream job? He’s turned down opportunities to coach there before and he agreed to a buyout that doesn’t suggest that (compare that to Hoiberg’s buyout making it clear where his heart was). Some even say he was a Michigan fan.

Let's not forget, Urban's record at OSU is 77-9(.895 in 7 seasons) and they want him out the door, crazy. In 17 seasons, OSU is 181-32 and Urban has never had a season with more than 2 losses. The fans & university expect that bar to be even higher.
Chew on those #'s if you think MC is going to be the next coach at OSU. Majority of the talk shows in Columbus believe that MC is not ready for OSU and OSU will go after a coach with more history.

Do OSU fans really want Urban out the door?

Vrabel would be an ideal candidate for them as well. Home grown superstar thats head coaching in the NFL. Titans are paying him $3M/yr, which they can easily double. He doesn’t have a proven recruiting record, but all the best Ohio kids line up to play there anyway.

When i read this in Gray's article:

“It’s huge and a lot of it goes back to Campbell — who he recruits,” ISU’s leading tackler and JUCO transfer Greg Eisworth said. “That was one thing he preached to me about, is, ‘We recruit guys that don’t have egos, that have the right attitudes and want to come in here and work,’ and it’s so true. When I got here and I saw the team, and the freshman class coming in, the way that they work, it’s awesome.”

I dunno how well that fits with the 5 star athletes you'll need at Ohio State or any of the Blue Bloods. Campbell has his process. Based on what he's said, I'm hopeful that he'll be here for a few years.

I think MC can manage that. The problem is that you have to change the culture and that could take 1-2 years and OSU has zero patience for a transition period.
