There isn't a single reason why he shouldn't come back and visit. CSP obviously invited him back to speak at some point this season. It speaks well to CSP and how secure he is.....a few posters should follow his cue instead of hating CFH and calling him the worst coach in the NBA.

No doubt. This is part of building a great program...bringing back successful players/coaches. It gets the fans and players hyped and is a great talking point for the tv production. It's just great publicity for the program. It is a real chance for people to hear nationally (again) the wins and championships they have compiled.

Just reading some of these posts its obvious why Fred left. A complete no win situation for the guy. This isnt a Prohm vs Hoiberg thing. It's about honoring a Cyclone Legend who gave it his all for this University for many years. Grow up and give him the welcome back he deserves.

Ejim and Hoiberg are the foundation of the resurgence. Niang doesn't matter nearly as much without Melvin setting the stage, and in Niang's accounts, setting Niang straight in practice following a nice headlock takedown of the freshman.
I remember that story. Still brings a smile to my face. :)

I don't really care that Holberg is going to be back, but I'm excited about Monte coming back!

But what I do want to point out is that hearing Prohm talk about it is pretty amazing. Steve gets compared to Holberg constantly and most of the time unfairly. (see the first comment in this thread---maybe Prohm can teach Fred how to play defense or hold players accountable) Every time Iowa State loses or doesn't win by enough, the Iowa State Men's Basketball Facebook page is filled comments about how everyone wants Fred back. I'm sure Prohm gets plenty of messages on twitter from idiots about Fred.

But yet, time and time again, Steve gives Fred credit for everything. If someone asks about a win Steve will jump in to give credit to Fred. There hasn't been much as far as blaming the previous coach for last year from Steve. Replacing a legend is never easy. There's a reason so many times they fail. I know that most people would get plenty sick of hearing about the person we replaced, no matter how good he was.

I know Fred will get a well deserved welcome tomorrow night, but what I hope is that Steve gets an even warmer welcome. Because he's the one that is here. He's the one that recruited Marial and Lindell and Tyrese and Talen. He's the one that has formed a pretty special bond with Monte. And he's the one that just had ANOTHER tope 25 road win ;)

We've got a special coach. I wish we'd realize that.

I've never seen a head coach take a more humble high road that Prohm. prohm emoji.png
He really does put the program ahead of himself.

Do you think they could handle critiques after we win, too? I would guess some of them just can’t handle reading non-glowing posts at anytime. It must suck to be that miserable and sensitive in a good season, but it’s probably just PTSD from some dark Cyclone days of the 70’s and 80’s.

There are some posters that offer criticism after the games we win that make good points. Certain posters should be able to handle that criticism. And then there are posters who nitpick before, during, and after the game that ruin it for others. Reading the game thread it is clear some posters post every single thought that comes to their head.

But apparently good enough not to go out and get Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo for a coach that wants fast-paced shooters.

The bulls are completely dysfunctional. Owner loyalty has crippled a franchise.

The reality is there was no respect for him by the players and they quit on Fred. Sucks for him.

The t wolves will try to use his local popularity to sell him to the small fan base they have. So he will be a retread NBA coach one more time. Good for him.

Reading comprehension right up there too I see. It was a poll of nba people that did that. Ironically hornacek was next to last in that poll.

I’m sorry Fred was in such a hurry to get out of Ames that he didn’t wait for a better job.

This board melts down over anticipated criticism even before the game, which imo is worse than comments perceived as nitpicking by some, (good points by others). There are a few posters with nefarious intent imo, or just nuts. Does anyone even respond to CyBobby or Atlanta?

The problem is that there are many posters who have the agenda that only come to criticize. Then they disappear when things go right.

Reality is Prohm isn’t as good on the sidelines as the elite guys. He is, however, the coach of my favorite team.

Knee jerk ******** from people that are against him is the problem.

Fred revived a program from the depths of Chewy. He deserves all of the credit for that. However, he was not a brilliant mastermind strategist, any more than prohm is.

The front office of the Celtics is generally regard as doing a good job imo. I’m not sure the same is true about GarPax.

Anecdotally, the newer fans don't value Fred like the old guard. He was my favorite player (and everyone else's at that time) growing up, and I'll always think of him first as "The Mayor" on those Orr/Floyd teams. I don't think anyone hates him, but some fans think of him as the coach that left ISU for the NBA.

Over/under on ESPN camera shots of Fred during the game? It's going to be obnoxious.
That’s fair enough, but I’m glad Hoiberg revived our program and left us in a good place. Prohm took that success and kept it going, even possibly taking it a step further this year. I’m happy the way it’s played out. If Hoiberg left us in the McDermott condition that would have upset me.

Again you ignore the era after the big 3 left. They were bad for a while. Ainge is not considered an upper echelon gm.

Amazing you continue to misrepresent simple facts. I guess pop is not as ready for his coaching lessons you were going to provide for him.
