So, you think he handled Wigginton's minutes appropriately?
I don't know why I'm even bothering to post, as the "fire him now" crowd has had their minds made up since Fred left. The crappy results this past few weeks have made it so that I just mostly ignore the CF forums and the constant negativity that it has become... CW, thanks for your excellent article.
For those who believe themselves to be rational and not "fire him b/c he's not Fred", and, I believe there are some in this category:
- It appears highly unlikely that this team will make the NCAAs; the only way I possibly see that happening is if Tre Jackson can start hitting multiple threes a game, like he did in HS (where he lit it up); I say this, as he plays tough D and is the only wing/guard off the bench that I see being able to effectively play both ways (I'd love it if either Zion or TL prove to be this person, as well; Grill looks like he just needs a year to get accustomed); even that makes us a short line-up, which is tough;
- But, I don't get why acknowledging that we're likely to struggle the rest of the year is reason to call for the coach's firing, be constantly negative, etc. Few coaches/programs have the success or linear path that some seem to think is an obvious given for ISU;
- Comments about how the trend of the program is in the tank are just insane; step back, look at our program pre-Fred, post-Fred (CSP), and forward; I bet you were screaming "the sky is falling" multiple seasons in the post-Fred (CSP) years; struggling this year does not mean we can't pick it back up in future years (or, possibly even this year);
- To question the passion/effort of the coach and especially the team is ridiculous if you're a fan - and, that appears to be what a few are doing with their negativity;
- Looking at this season, it seems to me that we're trying to play the four-out ball that CSP prefers to play, but without the right pieces; I'm interested to see if/how he adjusts as the year goes on (as he did at TCU with Tre playing much of the game); three of our top eight players are posts, and none of them can play the wing - it's just not doable even for Jacobson; I'd like to see that experiment ended and mix in some high/low post when two of them are in and some more structured O when we're in any line-up, as this team doesn't seem to have the creators that CSP's O needs to have - Tyrese is still cutting his teeth in that manner as well and often scores better in the halfcourt when off the ball - I loved the called play for his three late in the game to put us up by three... what a rough ending...
- Sorry, long note, but I don't get how some flip from seeing things they'd like to change to calling for a firing during an obvious downward trend...
