Where did I say it didn’t? It was the right decision to get rid of Prohm. But TJ is hardly the home run hire some posters make him out to be. I’ll gladly eat crow if he winds up being successful, but until then, I’ll continue to be underwhelmed by his hiring.
He was successful last night. 1-0.

Who is making him out to be a home run hire? Link?

The amount people that seem to be highlighting over and over and over and over and over at the beginning or end of their posts how much they think we’re gonna suck this year and how low expectations are and how the ceiling is 10 wins etc …..is really weird. We get it the program hit an all time low. It’s like several people adopted somebody’s else’s opinion of this team as their own and it’s become the thing to do on this forum. Nobody knows the ceiling…but I think it’s a little higher than people are giving credit for.

our big men are going to get abused in big 12 play is my biggest concern. Why do you think we doubled literally every post touch last night? Good teams are going to take advantage of us having to do that.

If the 2021 football season has taught me anything... It's that I need to set healthy and realistic expectation and be pumped when/if they exceed them.

Look at the schedule.

Should be wins (7):
Kenn St, Ala St, Gram St, Ark PB, Jack St, SE LA, Chi St

Toss up games (6):
Ore St, @iowa, Missouri, home against TCU and K-state, @Creigton

Bart Torvik's site gives us a 16% chance of victory in Omaha and 26% in Iowa City. Let's say we win half of those toss up games at Hilton. That is 10 wins. The Big 12 is DAMN good again, we have no one proven at Iowa State to carry a team for the entire season. Statistically we have a mountain to climb.

But I'm as excited to watch this team as I've ever been. Partly because I don't expect much and I want to see what the future holds. Some fans don't quite get how bad a a state the program was left by Prohm. Add on Johnson transferring late, a building block is about to be arrested for sexual assault and a key role player quitting the team days before the first game... It's bad. But I'm pumped to see what it could become (just look at how good our signing class was today)

Lost in last nights box score was the fact that we shot 73% from 2 last night (3rd in the country after 1 game). I was pleased with the offense and loved how spaced we played. Hard cuts to the hoop in the second half with quick passes led to several layups and dunks. We haven't seen that kind of action since Haliburton was here.

We shot 32% from deep. ISU hasn't done that since 2/27/2020. We only shot at or above that 9 times in 2020/21. Bolton and JCL are better shooters than anyone on this roster yet we held up. Our guard coach, JR Blount has some good success with shooting on his previous teams.

Defensive rebounding is my biggest concern after 1 game. Jaz, Enaruna, Condit and Jones combined for 10/299 rebounds.. I'm concerned. I pointed out several times in the off season that Coach Green will likely help A TON with rebounding. He was the defense and rounding coach for UNI and they have been ELITE at that for a decade plus. We need to clean up the rebounding.

If you look at Hunter's stat line. He had 5 assists and 2 turnovers in 20 minutes of play. A 2.5 A/T ratio would be AMAZING for a freshman. For comparison, Bolton and Tre Jackson averaged 1.3 last season. Tyrese Haliburton averaged 2.3 A/T for his career in Ames. We missed having Hunter when he got in foul trouble and that lead to our high number of turnovers.

TO summarize, Our offense actually moves and passes with a PG, Blount will have us shooting at a competitive rate, need to clean up rebounding and we go as far as Hunter will take us

The passing and cutting around the perimeter was FAST, and a shock to the system after what we've seen. So fast, in fact, that I thought we'd turn one over when we did that, but surprisingly, most of the turnovers seemed to involve getting a little too excited in transition, or in driving the paint.

Are they good? Well, no, not really. But they aren't helpless and hopeless, which is what the last 2 years were.

No more losing to FAMU or Milwaukee Sheet Metal Academy. No more losing by 30 at home.

They will beat the punching bags in non-con. They will win some toss up games, and a handful in conference. Bad P5 teams win 10-15 games, and don't quite make the NIT. That's what I think we are looking at this season.

It's a good start. Hunter absolutely looked the part, he will be a good one. More talent is on the way. I saw a much better coached team than I have for a long time.

I was NOT happy the Clone Cones now come in much smaller little bowls, what kind of BS is that???

I all about the positive vibes. I hope that TJ is the next Mayor or CMC. What I saw last night looked more like pickup basketball at LA Fitness. It does have to get better though.

Were we watching the same game? The team yesterday was sloppy, but there was at least something resembling an offense. Prohm’s offense was pickup ball. Pass it around the arc, dribble the shot clock out, and then play some 1v1 hero ball.

Were there some moments that were real sloppy? Yes, you’ll have that in most basketball games, especially first game of the year. We were actually running an offense though, and come to think of it I can only remember a few times running a ball screen, which was about all you got the last two years of Prohm’s “offense”.

Well I am going to give it a couple of years years of rent free on the expectations stuff.

I will be happy if they are just hard to play against on a regular basis, like they were last night.

Too lazy to look--did they have a lot back from last year?

That makes such a difference early in the season.

Either way I'd like to think it was a good game for the coaches to get a real feel for where things are.

ISU may have to go more Hoiball defense style due to the lack of depth.

After the the preaching TJ has been doing about defense and toughness, I doubt "playing" Hoiberg defense is an option.

We might not have the depth from a practice standpoint, but based on what I saw last night depth isn't going to be an issue for games (unless we have a couple injuries). We will go 9 guys deep and all are guys that can play at Big12 level.

Not saying we will be great, but that is because we don't have All Big12 level players. But if guys like Enaruna, Kunc or Jackson are our 8 & 9th guys, they will get the job done.

You didn't like the high ball screen offense? :jimlad:

Don’t take life so seriously, man. #TJ4prez
I don’t think that was the point of my post…

In the most un-serious way I can, I’m simply saying not to get ahead of ourselves.

I want TJ to be great too…last year sucked, but it’s a silly to get jacked up over beating a small school at home.
