Stuck at work and can’t go through the thread.

Does anyone know if, how the rules are set up, our seniors can come back?

They can all come back. This is their 4th year, everybody who had a career during COVID can come back for a 5th no questions asked. I think the assumption is that all of the seniors (Gabe, Brockington, Kunc) will be back for next year.

I only listened on radio but Kennesaw State had a single player draw 12 fouls and commit 7 turnovers.

That sort of chaos likely had more to do with how the game was called than anything our players did.

Seems like he was a nightmare to officiate and the officials weren’t up to it.

It was a perfect storm. First game of the year slop, the officials, one in particular, called a very tight game, and both teams played active, physical defense. That guard was a handful: ISU had trouble staying in front of him, and he was good at drawing contact. It was a slog of a game at times, but my goodness was it nice to be back at Hilton with an angry, booing crowd.

if he drew the 12 fouls without 7 tos I’d be more likely to think he’s a great player, with the 7 tos seems like he must have just been crashing around all over the place with and without the ball…I mean that is a rare combo to shoot that many fts and have 7 tos

Lost in last nights box score was the fact that we shot 73% from 2 last night (3rd in the country after 1 game). I was pleased with the offense and loved how spaced we played. Hard cuts to the hoop in the second half with quick passes led to several layups and dunks. We haven't seen that kind of action since Haliburton was here.

We shot 32% from deep. ISU hasn't done that since 2/27/2020. We only shot at or above that 9 times in 2020/21. Bolton and JCL are better shooters than anyone on this roster yet we held up. Our guard coach, JR Blount has some good success with shooting on his previous teams.

Defensive rebounding is my biggest concern after 1 game. Jaz, Enaruna, Condit and Jones combined for 10/299 rebounds.. I'm concerned. I pointed out several times in the off season that Coach Green will likely help A TON with rebounding. He was the defense and rounding coach for UNI and they have been ELITE at that for a decade plus. We need to clean up the rebounding.

If you look at Hunter's stat line. He had 5 assists and 2 turnovers in 20 minutes of play. A 2.5 A/T ratio would be AMAZING for a freshman. For comparison, Bolton and Tre Jackson averaged 1.3 last season. Tyrese Haliburton averaged 2.3 A/T for his career in Ames. We missed having Hunter when he got in foul trouble and that lead to our high number of turnovers.

TO summarize, Our offense actually moves and passes with a PG, Blount will have us shooting at a competitive rate, need to clean up rebounding and we go as far as Hunter will take us

So much work to do but if they can finish at the rim more consistently, make their free throws and limit turnovers this team can win some games it shouldn't.

Hunter has some serious ups by the way. Can't wait to see him get stronger and start tomahawk dunking when the lane clears for him.

Lastly, Blum is an awesome play by play.

Your last comment reminds me that the new PA guy needs to work on enunciation. He was very hard to understand

I bet we are all in love with Caleb Grill by the end of the season. He is lightyears ahead of what we all saw in 2019/20 under Prohm. He is a great piece off the bench. 40% from 3 last night, no turnovers, 2 assists, 2 rebounds and didn't foul like the others..

Caleb shot 35% from 3 at UNLV last year on 6 attempts per game, lead that team in minutes played and only averaged 1.7 turnovers per 40 minutes played. He is going to be a great piece for now and in the future. He's got 3 years left, 2 after this year. He's big enough and athletic enough to not be the liability Jackson is on defense. I'm excited to watch him play this year

Excited to watch this team compete against Oregon St. No one should be expecting a win against a team that went to the Elite 8 last year. But even a close game is a great sign for the future.

They really struggled for the first 30 minutes against Portland St (down 10 at the under 12 TV timeout) before really taking control. They shot a terrible free throw percentage (57.7%) which may have played into that score.

It appears their strength is size and ability to switch and really guard. We'll need Hunter to play 35+ minutes and keep up his 2.5 A/O ratio plus a MASSIVE improvement from our post players

I think we will compete with them. So much of our fixable errors I think are from nerves. They also haven't really nailed down the rotations yet as TJ said in his interview so everyone is still trying to feel it out. I expect them to show quite a bit of improvement between this game in the second.

PS
When we had Jazz at the 5 and were basically running a 5 guard setup, the absolute madness, chaos and movement that we had on the defensive end was very encouraging.

Anyone think the ESPN+ broadcast wasn't the best quality?

I'm not talking Blum/Christopherson but just the quality of the image seemed crappy to me. I also couldn't find anywhere to see if I was in 1080 or 720 or even 480.

Who on god's green earth expected that there was any way ISU would have a great team this year? We were all hoping for a team that didn't stink the place up.

You have to be trolling with the TJ's seat comments.
