Of the 7 or so cupcakes in the non-con, I think this probably projected to be one of or the toughest. So at least we can say there should be 6 more games this team SHOULD win. Then it's looking to see if they can grab another few wins along the way.
But I think it's important to realize that last year was not just a historically bad year for ISU basketball, it was pretty historically bad for any power conference team. Considering the typical schedules and number of completely terrible teams a power conference team usually has in the non-con, you should be able to turn your roster over and win 5 games in your sleep.
Expectations are really low, and they should be. But I'm still looking for some wins. I'll feel OK moving forward if they get 6-7 Ws in the non-con and 2-3 wins down the stretch in conference. The great thing about college basketball is that turnaround can be very fast. It's a completely different animal than football, in terms of the time it takes to build a program, the typical schedule, and frankly just the number of games that are played against some really awful competition.
Hunter is a guy you can build a team around at the most important position in college basketball. There are some nice complimentary backcourt guys. The frontcourt is going to be an adventure, but luckily you can get by in college basketball.
Our basketball culture had turned pretty rotten the last couple of years. If nothing else this is a group of players that seem to be bought in to the coach and each other. I really like Brockington as a tough guy and leader. I'm looking forward to the season and seeing what TJ can do. So far I am encouraged.
