What will ISU be ranked?

They're #18 on Bart Torvik if you remove all data from last season and the preseason.

That feels pretty fair to me.
What does it have ISU finishing?

Imo it’s reasonable to think we’ve both earned #11, and are not the 11th best team. I think a lot of voters convolute the two at their whim

20-11 (8-10 in the league). 7 seed

I know it might have updated but I see...

20-11 (8-10)
#8 seed

That is running the model using data from last year and the preseason, though, which currently combines with data from this season to have Iowa State as the #43 team in the country.

Force it to rerun that model with Iowa State as #18 (which only uses data from this year) --

23-8 (10-8)
#4 seed

deKock isn't even the worst. The other poll without us ranked is a guy from the Oregonian, he actually had us ranked 17th two weeks ago, and dropped us out!

Crupea ... I have no idea what's up with his recent votes. Also elevated BYU from #24 to #22 AND U-M from #22 to #21 from week 5 to 6, despite both LOSING.

Yes, 6-4 Michigan. That one.

Among other anomalies.

From what I gather, at least DeKock's "system" has some kind of consistency (even if it's bogus assessment).

Y'know I appreciate guys who have a system, and write about their decisions openly and honestly. It means they are actually trying to do it right. Better than guys who look at last week's poll, rearrange some things based on git feelings based on the 2 games they watched that week and submit it.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, highest for ISU is #8 (three voters) - one is Chris Murray, who if memory serves is favorable to ISU ... and this week has 7 Big 12.
1 Baylor
8 Iowa State
9 Kansas
16 Oklahoma
19 Texas
24 Texas Tech
25 West Virginia

I think there should be an evaluation after the year is done to decided if you can be a part of the voting process the following year. maybe there is? just feels like most of these guys vote based off name and don't put any effort in to it all.

just seem like if you broke down the voting members history and you find a lot of things that don't make sense, they are obviously not paying attention and need to give up your voting rights. of course this has been going on for years now.

How in the hell is 4 loss Michigan getting votes in the top 25.....

Only "good" win is a quad 2 win against Buffalo in their first game of the year.

Some people don't deserve earth's oxygen...

Maybe hanging 102 on Nebby is worth a couple of votes? Because you are right.......there is nothing else they have done this year to elicit a single vote.

Their football team beat tOSU and is in the playoffs. Seriously AP voters are dumb as ****. CBS Top 25 and 1 (along with the analytical sites) is what I care about.

I was using the default model with preseason and recruiting assumptions

“Just” two games different. Such a fine line in which the same team has a multitude of reasonably possible outcomes.

An interesting question, would you take 8-10 right now? Likely as much a question of ones risk aversion than a statement on your view of the team, but….

Although leaving some upside on the table, I would lock in 8-10 and making the tournament in Year 1. The Big 12 is absolutely brutal this year, and I think we’re going to struggle to score on the way to close losses.

He's going off Kenpom. Of course he doesn't understand it. The only reason they are ranked that low in Kenpom is last season is still getting factored in, which shouldn't apply at all in ISUs case because it is an entirely different team.
It’s disturbing that people in charge of these polls didn’t look at Ken Pom and see that Iowa is 20 spots ahead, Memphis 11 spots and Xavier 26 spots better than ISU. When an undefeated team is that far behind not one, not two, but three teams they absolutely handled it should tell you that at this point in time it is not a valid model.

Agreed, I'd even take 7-11 probably. This is a rough rough schedule. I'd like to defend Hilton 5/9 times and grab a few road games.
