What's Brock Purdys record in 1 possession games?

If Brock had a chance of being drafted I think he played himself out of it tonight. He saw the type of pass pressure that is routine in the NFL and he repeatedly backpedaled instead of stepping up in the pocket, or bailed early and ran to the outside which took away at least 2/3 of the field. Then add the batted ball pick 6 which was as dumb of a play as I’ve seen in the 45 years I’ve been watching college football. Anyone who thinks Brock Purdy is better than Seneca Wallace is just nuts. Brock had much better talent and depth around him on both sides of the ball. Seneca with this year’s team would have been something.

Honestly, who thought he had a chance to get drafted? He was the perfect QB for ISU at the right time, but he has never flashed NFL level talent. Undrafted camp invite? Maybe. Never drafted

If we had Zeb starting, you think we would have had more wins than Purdy got us?
I will bet no, an FCS backup would not have gotten ISU more wins.

But seriously 16-1 in Big 12 at home. That’s just ridiculous no matter what else happens. Plenty of frustrating moments by Purdy, but the dude has guts and gave all he had to ISU during one hell of a four year ride.

Not exactly sure.

Totally agree. The person I responded to was whining and saying he lost us 8 games or so. I look at all the games we would have lost without him and am thankful we had him.

How many games did Brock win? Thanks Ill hang up and listen.

If we had a ring of honor his jersey would be on it without anyone questioning it. Thank you, Brock.

How many did he win for us? Not many.

As a freshman it looked like he could be a difference maker. It seemed like he had the talent and knack to add wins to whatever the roster would otherwise have.

Instead he ended up being a guy along for the ride. More of a game manager type. I'm not sure he made others around him better as much as his hype would suggest, certainly not the OL or WRs. The OL did not help him either at times, but no one has ever sung their praise.

He is one of the most accomplished starters in program history, but also one of the most overrated.

As good as Brock was here, I'll certainly wonder what he could have been with better offensive coaching. He wasn't exactly put in a lot of positions to grow.
He made a ton of mistakes this year. There is such a thing as throwing the ball away. He gave up the ball a ton, and went from a second day pick to undrafted.

I can thank Brock for what he accomplished but still be happy to see Dekkers behind center next year.

Brock was mismanaged but this tweet is "lazy and misguided" itself. First off Campbell called plays Brock's first "half year" as described by Narber. While mismanaged the next 3 years under Manning, it conveniently ignores the bone headed mistakes that Brock made consistently. No better example than tonight's batting forward of the ball, or the three INTs against OU in the Big 12 championship, or the backwards pick 6 against TCU etc. etc.

Brock shouldn't be free of criticism but should still be largely remembered for the way he left this program in considerably better shape than the program he stepped into

I’d love a stat on how many games have ended on a Purdy turnover. It’s got to be at least 7. Obviously has done great things, but he rarely went and won the game when it mattered

I think there were 4 losses in Purdy's career where the last drive was a turnover (not counting turnover on downs):
2021: Oklahoma (int with 15 seconds left)
2020: Oklahoma, Big 12 championship (int with 1:05 left)
2019: Baylor (fumble with 2 seconds left, drive started with 23 seconds left)
2019: Oklahoma St (interception with 19 seconds left)

For comparison, Purdy's freshman year there were 3 games where the last drive was a quarterback turnover. None of those were by Purdy.

I'm curious what the average rate of losses that are within a score where the losing team's last possession ends in a turnover for all of college football. I know I'd rather throw into traffic with a few seconds left than just ensure defeat with a check down or something.

Its not all about him in one score games. Sure, the record this year is what it is - but in those games, even ones where he may have made some mistakes - I'm certain he was hardly alone.

its not secret I don't hold him in as high esteem as some here - but the idea that he is alone responsible in these one score games... even last night.

I have a much bigger issue with the batted ball decision than the fumble. Would it have been nice to tuck the ball away past the line of scrimmage? Of course. But he was scrambling and making a sound play. the batted ball - IDK., I'm sure he was trying to knock it down but the result was he knocked it straight forward and I'm not sure why he just didn't try to catch it like a lot of OL or other plays do. but that no longer matters cause what's done is done.

but again, these games are not won or lost solely because of him. the rest of the time had just as much impact on those one score games as he did IMO and the seasons over, for me at least I think its time we leave off and stop rehashing and hashing everything he, this team or anyone else was or wasn't. The year is over, sadly, for many their careers are over for many, many great Cyclones, obviously including Brock and its time to recognize, thank and appreciate them for everything they have done. That doesn't mean all criticism is unwarranted etc but creating threads specifically meant to draw light to a players perceived short comings... that I don't feel is fair

That wasn't a sound play. He needed to slide or go down after the first down.

He gets happy feet in the pocket and plays hero ball. We needed that the first 2 years but not really this year or even last year.
He had a blocker and looked to be taking an outside angle to the sidelines. He gets around Noel and it looks like he could have scrambled for several more yards and gotten out of bounds. All taking the same amount of time as sliding would have killed.
