Curious to see if there are things Prohm learned via experience at ISU and how he applies it at Murray. You'd think being thrown into P6 ringer would have value when returning to mid-major. Probably no way to quantify that sort of thing, but I imagine McDermott learned a thing or two he was able to take back to then-MVC level.
McDermott had no rebuild because he was able to keep the Iowa kids that Dana left behind (Gibbs, Wragge, Harriman, Artino), two stud bigs that Dana left behind (Echenique, Lawson), flush the crap (P'Allen Stinnett) and bring his kid with him.

There's never been anybody more set up for immediate success.

While still in the MVC too. He picked the perfect rebound situation, in essence going back to the equivalent of a loaded UNI, both in roster and resources, and was able to largely ride that momentum to long-term success.

It helps he hasn't been starting walk-on guards anymore.

Jackson and Walker can absolutely be MVC starters (or at the very least main rotation guys). You probably get into trouble if you need either one to be your first or second offensive option.

Did I miss where Walker announced he was transferring?

Did McDermott use a scholarship on Dougie McBuckets? Since Creighton gave him a pretty nice contract, I always wonder if daddy just paid for Dougie as a walk on so that he didn't use up a scholarship.

Pretty soon there will be almost as many threads as for Fred. Un-####### believable!

I don't know...I think that it's going to be fun to follow. There's a chance that there will be some ex-ISU assistants on that staff and potentially some ex-ISU players. Plus, they'll be playing in the MVC. I know Prohm kind of tanked our program, but I don't really have ill will towards him. He just didn't get it done.

He did until his last year. Pulled him off scholarship for a transfer the first year they were in the Big East.

I'll say it... I hope he fails. Bad coach whose only success was contingent on elite talent that he mostly inherited. He doesn't deserve a HC job at the D1 level. Had it not been for the amazing coaching job by TJ and the effort of the guys this year we could have been looking at several years of rebuilding to a respectable program from where Prohm left us as the worst team in P5.

But apparently he's a good guy though, and that excuses him for getting paid millions of dollars to ruin our basketball program.

I think you meant, he don't deserve a power 6 job at this point. He deserves a job at a school like Murray State, where he killed it once before and just might do it again.

It's a good thing he didn't become a pilot, surgeon, teacher, engineer, cop, chainsaw juggler, etc

With this move, Does he have to cough up part of the isu buyout?
I had the same thought.....didn't want to dig into finding if the official settlement is out there, but certainly getting some of that back wouldn't hurt (i.e. give it directly to TJ) LOL

No, I meant D1 level. He had Cam Payne and Isaiah Canaan during his 4 years at Murray State and only made the tourney 1 year.
Solomon Young deserves a very special award for being the only player in prohm's 10 years as a head coach that was with prohm for all of his eligibility.

Imagine being this petty.
That because he wasn't successful as coach of your favorite team, you believe he deserves to fail everywhere else as well. Unless Steve Prohm personally dedicated every single loss to you, or was leaving flaming bags of dog poop on your front step, get a life.

His base at Murray is $575k but I'm not sure if there way any offset language in his settlement with Iowa State. I kind of doubt it but you never know.
