I get around
The day is near when I will likely be exclusively following lower level college football, where there’s less money and more kids playing for the love of the game.
Becoming a Grand View University Viking fan is a possibility. After all they are multi-year National Champs and have established a very powerful football program.

I get that ISU can’t pay the players but what a stupid system where a school makes $80+ million per year but needs the fans to pay the players to be competitive…

I am very glad players can capitalize on their talents now, I have no issue with it and hope they all make bank. But these sports generate billions of dollars but donors/fans are left holding the bag? No thanks.
Right…it’s almost like blackmail it feels. You guys give more and get ahead of it or watch your beloved school be mediocre at best…evidently that’s on us…

Then you were dumb when the rest of us were trying to explain it to you, but yet the mantra continued it's the right thing to do!
I assume your response to @CycloneRulzzz was intended as general observation of "I thought NIL meant this, but now it's 'that'" ... but it comes off mean-spirited, as if Rulzzz advocated NIL on a frequent basis. I've followed the CF NIL discussions consistently, and I've seen no evidence of that.

My post was literally my first on the subject. I deleted it because I didn't want anymore grief. I will no longer comment on the topic here.

Ok, so the U is giving Nigel Pack $800,000 for 2 years of basketball. Alright, not literally the U, but we all know what I mean. So, can ISU really play this game? I say not. And so the competitive disadvantage we have dealt with for decades now becomes even more pronounced. That's what I'm seeing.

Not talking just ISU here, but imagine if all this NIL money actually went into feeding the hungry, creating infrastructure that benefits mankind, and making the world better. This is a straight up waste (and more so at the "blue bloods" --- read - inbred royalty schools --- who are dropping millions upon millions).

I'm not sure how to feel about it. I agree with the idea of players sharing in the proceeds because they have been taken advantage of long enough. I'm not in favor of this becoming a burden on fans to see if we can pay to win. I'm just not sure how this plays out. It looks like it is going to be a huge disaster.

And this just isn't boosters who want to drop a few hundred grand here and there, this is about pushing the average fan into a form of taxation to show they are a true fan.

I think things might stabilize to a reasonable place, but that isn't how things are looking right now.

Your first sentence is too sensible and thoughtful.

Just to go further with it: We know that ISU isn't going to bring in enough to be competitive. It's just throwing good money after bad thinking this will keep us in some sort of competitive position.

This is the best explanation I’ve seen. It’s over. ISU will be a second or even third class citizen going forward. What’s the point in spending even more money?

Are schools that lag behind on NIL going to start hitting the foreign recruitment hard? From what I understand, foreign players aren’t eligible for NIL money. I can see an influx of foreign players as long as that exists.

And it’s exactly because the interest in team is intrinsically tied to the school brand.
How much NIL interest do Iowa Energy players who didn’t go to Iowa or ISU have? I guarantee they are better than the average major conference player and the answer is not much at all.

It’s probably an impossible situation because the whole enterprise of scholarship school associated athletics with a huge audience is pretty illogical.

To be quite blunt, I couldn't even name a Iowa Energy player as long as Stinson is retired. Only went to maybe 2 games that was because my niece was part of the half time entertainment.

This really has nothing to do with loyalty. Do u want to watch a winner or loser. Time to decide

LOL if you are over the age of 40 you've seen plenty of BAD FB and a MBB team that usually ends up with something north of 17 wins but not always, it's not like we've been a athletic power house.

We've never been Duke or KU in BB, or Bama or OU etc n in FB since Campbell got here we compete with OU but we certainly don't have their natty's.
