ESPN is not “chasing” after the PAC-12, but they’re opportunistic. Sounds like they’ve had regular talks. Vaguely paraphrasing here- Probably not a good deal for the PAC-12 if everyone is looking at them as an opportunity to grab at a low cost.

Yeah I don’t know if any presidents have the guts to be the ones to initiate a move to the B12 as status quo is easier for them personally even if the school takes less money, less visibility, and is more or less waiting for the death blow from Oregon and Washington to the B10 in a few years.

They don’t even have a deal lol. If they take a bad deal fans and boosters are NOT going to be happy. Everyone knows football money is the important thing to college sports.

After 5 more years of being even more irrelevant than they have been the last decade, teams will have had more time to come to the 'acceptance' stage that the pac 12 isn't viable anymore and be ready to jump

AZ AD is on record saying anything worse than 50/50 streaming and they are out.

College Football Enquirer podcast from last week talked a bit about ESPN and the PAC-12. Dan Wetzel brought up an interesting thought that people are just assuming it’s other college football content ESPN is putting ahead of the PAC-12 rights. He brought up the recent acquisition by Endeavor to get the WWE. Endeavor also owns the UFC, which ESPN currently has.

That UFC deal is coming up soon (negotiations next year I think, could be a little off there) and the ratings for WWE for 52 weeks (Smackdown averages like 2.4 million I think he said) a year are better than what the PAC-12 gets on average.

Could be a cheaper overall bundle to have UFC and WWE in ESPN’s portfolio with overall better ratings and more content throughout the entire year. Plus a different demographic and fan base to market to as well.

Just an interesting thought that was a different perspective.

Interesting note (link at bottom has a bunch of politics in it so beware)...Disney/ESPN going to increase its price for streamers (not shocking):

A Whole New World: Disney on Wednesday reported its quarterly earnings, narrowing its losses on streaming and offering a peek at future plans for the media juggernaut. Chief executive Bob Iger announced the company plans to fold Hulu into the Disney+ app by the end of the year to create a "one-app" experience. Standalone options for all of its platforms, including ESPN+, will also remain, he said. But plans are afoot to raise subscription prices and drop some of the platforms' content. Iger said the company will be taking a $1.5 billion to $1.8 billion charge related to the removal. "Going forward we intend to produce lower volumes of content," he said.

It's been wild watching the media go from saying the Pac 12 is insanely more valuable than the Big 12 to slowly accepting the fact that the Big 12 might be better off and the Pac 12 is in a terrible spot. They have very little negotiating power that is a result of a series of inept leaders, the market moving faster than they did, and generally apathetic fan bases.

Utah is a tweener, they just don't realize it. They have only been a P5 school for like 10 years.

I agree with you though, the stability we have is due to the parity of the schools.

I look at it this way, if the PAC would of been successful in fleecing the Big XII. The school support in Iowa would of slowly shifted for the current 60-40 Iowa to likely 75-25. So way take Utah when you can down grade their program and get the fan base? Same goes for AZ. I'm not saying current fans will flip but future fans will only see one viable option.

I'm opposite..invite them and all the remaining teams that are not in the SEC / Big Ten. Form a new league that has nothing to do with SEC / Big - allow no team in the new league to play them in any sport. Let those two conference beat up on and try to outspend each other.

Our new league will have standard NIL payment limits, scholarship limits, transfer rules, etc. Each team receives the same financial support from media.

I think this new league would be a lot more fun and healthy for the student athletes.

In essence...this new league replaces the NCAA and all their mistakes.

In all honesty, it is going to be incredibly hard for a team not in the big 2 conferences to be competitive long term going forward. So instead of trying to be the third best conference...I say screw them and let them eat cake!

The landscape of college football could be very different in five years. Will the ACC be able to dissolve the conference and if so, will we even be interested in the four corners. Ego's could be the end of some of these schools being relevant five years from now.
