No way we were even close to that. But he's in a stable situation and probably has aspirations of the NFL and ISU is a known commodity and a system he knows and works well in. And we won't immediately try to recruit over him every year.
Once Purdy signs his long term deal after next season for $50M a year Rocco will make that his goal. So A&M’s paltry $1 million offer now is embarrassing. A bunch of pikers down there.

I hate it with a passion and it's seriously ruining college athletics.
Which part do you think is ruining college athletics?

Them getting paid?
Transfer portal?
NIL facade?
Realignment?

Personally, I think the realignment is doing more harm for the common fan than anything. Consolidation of “power” between two leagues is not good or healthy for the sport. Losing rivalries and regional tradition is probably turning me off the most and it’s only beginning.

Ok fine, I didn't word that correctly. If you made up a scenario where a billionaire who wasn't a fan of the Chiefs, never attended the games, and didn't know the owners decided they were going to pay Mahomes an extra 100 million dollars to play for the Chiefs technically that may be all right. Of course this would never happen, and in any real world scenario where it would happen that person would be considered an affiliate of the Chiefs because they have some interest in the franchise, and any amount payed to the player to play for the Chiefs would have to be disclosed and count towards the salary cap. Better?

Not really. If that were the case, local commercials for professionals would be off the table. They wouldn’t have the local commercial if they weren’t part of that team, and they have some sort of relationship with the team in question.

So once again, it is legal, but pro sports fans aren’t dumb enough to fund a billion dollar industry.

It depends on how we look at it. Is this bad for Iowa State? Yes, it definitely is. Is it bad for CFB? I don't think so. I think it makes the general product more compelling. How many teams are going to have a legitimate shot at the playoffs next year? Certainly more than the pre-NIL era.
I think fans at big time schools are actually getting sick of it now. Ohio State has lost several significant guys to the portal. Same with big time SEC schools. You cannot tell me that coaches nationally and the fans want to have a team full of random mercenaries from other schools each year.

Coaches also don't want to re-recruit their entire roster every year. And the system needs to change b/c it shouldn't be on the fans to pay. We pay with tickets to Jack Trice, and our TV subscriptions. Now I pay to the We Will every year because I'm a die hard, but that is not most people especially those not on this board.

Yeah no one likes this…at all. It’s going to drive good coaches away too. If they have NFL opportunities they will take them even if it’s a lower level and who could blame them. It’s tough enough recruiting the HS class and now you have to recruit every freshman and sophomore you’ve been getting ready to play just so they don’t go elsewhere after you’ve invested 150k in resources just from the school.

I think and hope we will get resolution shortly in the way of some sort of binding contracts. I had just hoped to get the sit out year back to slow this down but that’s not happening so we will live for the free for all.

i'm not totally joking but recruiting qbs from well off families is our only option
Let's be honest though, it's not poor families putting their kids into camps all over the country, hiring trainers and coaching gurus, etc.

And even for those families who are well-off enough to do that for their kid(s), there will be a not-insignificant proportion who will view NIL as the beginning of the return on their investment.

It would be worth about $45 mil. 40 years at 10% in SPY.
That is pretax, i assume. Take 35% off of the $250. At your assumption of 10% (probably too high) it will still be a nice sum.

SPY average 10.26% since inception in 1957. If you invest what is left of the 250k per year at 2024 tax brackets (which will actually go down each year meaning less taxes)

Both NIL and the transfer rule are working just as intended. The blue bloods get their pick and the media get a better product to sell ads. Instead of recruit stars they'll be talking up the $$$.

It's in the collective bargaining agreement. If the NFL feels a player is payed more than fair market value for services from anyone affiliated with a team it goes before an arbitrator. Do you really think they would let teams bypass the salary cap that easily? So yes, players can do adds for local businesses but it has to be for fair market value. I'm sure there is some wiggle room, but they can't go over the top with it or the team/player will get fined.

Rocco a good qb with a good oline. He will be decent with us, as long as our oline continues to struggle. He is NOT Brock Purdy status. Sorry. This is not a thought, a reality. My thoughts are if we can ever improve our oline the kid from south east polk is a game changer

With Rocco and Kohl, I’d be surprised if moberley takes more than garbage time snaps ever. Also, he’s not Purdy status yet, but give it another year

Lol is this a legit question? He has an NFL future and his dad made something like 15 mil in the NFL over his career. Rocco doesn’t need money
Let's get real. Rocco hasn't showed much for NFL potential. Some accurate mid range, and slant passes. Any beyond 40?
