Going to divisions would be a significantly worse arrangement than what we currently have.

Its far more likely to have a second place team in a division that is clearly better than the first place team in the other division than it is for a team who is clearly worse to make it in the current tiebreaker format. As an example, this year there is almost no way the two teams who don't make it out of the current top four don't feel like they only have themselves to blame for not making it (shouldn't have lost the games they did).

For scheduling ever team would end up playing the same 7 teams over and over again, which hurts fan interest because that gets boring. You would also go years without seeing teams in the other division.

Divisions would very likely be set up geographically, East and West, to help with travel. With the current makeup of the conference it definitely feels like more often than not the West division would be harder. Likely not as bad as the old North and South divisions, but I can tell you I'd definitely want Iowa State in an eastern division if they went that route.

Duh!
How do you create a balanced schedule? Look at this year, the projected best teams are at the bottom (UU, OSU, UA) of the standing with the projected bottom at the top (BYU, ASU, etc.)

You can't have balanced schedules in a 16-team league with only 9 games. It isn't possible no matter how you try to arrange it. Concede that the schedules will always be unbalanced and give me divisions to cleans up this tie breaker atrocity.

Not sure if this is going to make me feel better or worse, but I suspect better. IF we had beaten Texas Tech, would we essentially be in the same position of needing Colorado to lose in order to have any assurances?

Maybe our tie breaker situation would have been improved.
from mred's bracket (you can unhide completed games and change the outcome). We would still need Az St and/or CO to lose one more game to be assured (assuming we lose one of Utah/K St).

Trade Prime for TCU and I'm sold. That wouldn't split up the Revivalry and could rekindle the old Big XII North hatred between ISU-KU-KSU-CU.

Ideally, we'd even swap OSU and Houston to get the remaining Big 8 members all together. That would be a ton of fun.

That's fine, keep the Texas schools together. It wouldn't be that hard.

Thanks, never realized you can change old games for hypotheticals.

Not exactly sure.
How exactly do you propose "balanced schedules" with 16-20 teams?

Colorado was picked 11th, BYU 14th, and Arizona State dead last in the preseason rankings. Good luck with that.
We set the first game and then the winners play the winners. Keep matching up similar records. So what if you don’t know who, where, or when you are playing.

Doesn’t this make the schedules more lopsided?

Divisions of 8 teams each. For example, this year we only have 2 opponents in common with Utah's schedule (Houston and UCF). Almost an entirely different schedule. Divisions guarantee that you will have at least 6 opponents in common and play head to head if you are in the same division, making a much more fair and balanced schedule.

I don't know how anyone could consider us more than likely to win our bowl game. CMC teams have turned in plenty of uninspired bowl performances. Hence the coping narrative around here that bowl games no longer matter.
In this era, bowl games definitely don't matter. I wish they'd just get rid of them. They're embarrassing at this point.

@Dale If you get time would it be possible to see which remaining Big 12 games move the odds of Iowa State making the championship game the most. I'm particularly curious to see which of the games outside of the top 4 teams impact our odds the most.

With absolutely no animosity towards rhe Knights, how much more sense does this make if you swapped in Louisville for UCF?

Pretty similar to yours but I would make it strictly a North/South split:

North: ISU, KSU, KU, CU, WVU, Cincy, BYU, Utah
South: AZ, ASU, Tech, TCU, Baylor, Hou, Ok St, UCF

North would be strong this year but I could see it being balanced long term.

If you split North and South, maybe you can get Buccee’s to sponsor the southern division. Maybe an ethanol producer for the Northen division?
