Is increasing yield really helping family farmers? Do you know what you are talking about? This isn't shallow wonk economics....this is about FAMILY farmers...stewards of the land and folks raising families.....not absentee land owners and getting another quarter pound of hog out of the same amount of feed, antibiotics, and energy in the corporate confinement. Don't be Hating....I just think Hayden--despite being our arch enemy for all those years....deserves respect and I think he respected the agricultural communities. America needs farmers bro.

I guess the important thing is making sure we have enough food to feed everyone. As a Child of the 80's/1998 pork market crash I would know about the problems in Agriculture, but the big things is feeding people. But that is besides the point.

Dallas Clark. Came to my high school football camp when he was a Redshirt Freshman, before anyone knew about him. Really good guy. Freak athlete.

Bert Bielema. Hey, if you can be THAT big of a meathead and make the living he has, I just have to tip my cap.

Hope you forgot the :jimlad:. I have zero respect for anyone that would walk up to the ISU coach after his last EIU/ISU game and tell him he enjoyed kicking our *** for the last 4 years.

I'm sure he did enjoy it. I wish our guys would beat somebody 4 years in a row and tell their coach the same thing.

Did some work with Bobby Hanson and got along great with him.

Always liked Wade Lookingbill.

But I'll go with Mike Hornaday. Dude was only a walk on, but we worked together in a ******** for about two months and ever since we've become great friends and the guy has saved my life in several different ways. Hilarious dude. You may recognize him as "dated Jenni Garth once dude" from 90210, or maybe "dumb football player #792" from coach, or more recently "wacky forgetful dad" in some Casey's Puzza commercials and "laughing gambling guy" in some casino commercials.

I'm sure he enjoyed it. Guess we have a different opinion of good sportsmanship.

I'll go with Dean Oliver. Never really knew that much about him but that's when I first started watching and listening to basketball and it seemed like the dude always battled ISU hard.

Coach Mac (gave us our greatest season in program history) and Steve Alford (all time great college basketball player and very very under appreciated head coach)

Probably my favorite Hawkeye to hate. Was good at hyping teams up for failure, and socially with all the rumors of things like co-eds and hot tubs, something had to be true at some point...similar to Bret Bielema at Wisconsin.

Favs: Probably Woolridge for bball, Clark for football. Good, hard working players that didn't need to say much.

Tom Davis for coaching. IIRC his teams played their tails off.

Another great iowa farm boy Bruce Nelson. Worked his tail off and is still doing the family farm thing back home after an NFL career. Have a buddy who is employed by him and they seem to take care of him pretty well

Being a Vikes fan, Chad Greenway is up there. Also Tim Dwight, and always liked how Jake Ruddock carried himself.

I am actually a big fan of Hayden Fry now. Maybe I am over-compensating for the vitriol I hurled at him in previous decades.
I know we all like to parrot the "ANF" versus the "Actually Helping Farmers" gimic.....however, what I see coming out of Iowa State is helping corporate farmers and research funding streams. Helping Family Farmers is still a challenge and Hayden did what he did....he didn't have to. He could have been a boring, non-invasive, football-only-focused, gum-chewwing salary collector. But he spear-headed the "ANF" logo effort and you have to salute him and pay respects. Good man.

you have so much fail here. Corporate farms essentially don't exist in Iowa. Family owned farms may form a corporation, to define boundaries, managerial roles, for transferring ownership among family members, etc.....but something like 98% of iowa farms are owned by individuals or closely held by related famly members.

iowa state does a ton to help every-day, normal American farmers, and I am very proud of ISU for that.

Increasing yield might just help anyone who likes to eat on a daily basis.
