I heard Texas's mouthpiece, Chip Brown, this weekend pick the Cyclones to be in the B12 championship game v. TCU. So, lots of respect for ISU out there in media land. Seems to be a lot of negative here. Certainly should handle Iowa.

One of the big disappointments in my life with respect to ISU Football, was the season where we started out 5-1-1, and ended 5-5-1 (1981). Within reason, I really don't care what the team record is at 4 games in, as long as the team shows improvement from year to year and during the season.

Like we should certainly handle your asses but keep snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...

OU isn't immune to a down year. Losing Mayfields "leadership" will be tough on them. They've gone 8-5 with more talented teams than this years squad. 2005 and 2009 I think

I agree with "they always recognize our blitzes"......and the reason for that is very simple.....The CHOKE eyes practice against our defensive and offensive sets every spring practice at least until the season starts......Its instructive to me that the only time that didnt really work, was when we played the game in november.....We Won, the CHOKES lost, and thats the reason the boys over east always want to play the game early.......aka "our wonderful players" er CHOKES cant remember ISU's sets that long......One of Prune faces er Raisin faces wide receivers and I now quote him..."I get sick of running plays against Iowa State's defense".....Thats just how desperate that CHOKE eye nation is to win the biggest game of the year.......Dont believe me?....Look it up it was in the Locust Street Liar...sports section of course

man, excuses, excuses excuses. Time to take ownership.

I'm a little late to the party but I said 3-1. Jack Trice will be electric for Oklahoma regardless if ISU got past Iowa or not. I don't remember much from the last time OK was up here but I feel like ISU hung tight for awhile and the final score was much closer than it looked. However, its OK and they'll reload as usual plus ISU won't sneak up on them this year.

As for the Iowa game, this is probably the most confident I've felt going into a season about beating Iowa as I think their losses at LB will sting early on and the OL play hasn't been great the last few years. What I'm concerned about is their DL controlling the line of scrimmage. I actually think they'll be good on that front (which could mask the new LBs). While ISU is on defense its the bigger back that gives me worry. Reason is our LBs aren't the biggest and IF they can get to the second layer with their line it will be tough to slow them down and the play action which could stem from it. The Defensive front will need to stand their ground to allow the rest of the defense to flow. Lastly, last year I think there were at least 2-3 times where Stanley over shot someone who got behind the secondary. If they can connect it may be a different story, but this is also a "I'll believe it when I see it" kind of thing.

And almost started 6-1, should've won at OU.

Final month of that season was a major bummer. The loss to K-State (its only Big 8 win that season) began a downward spiral.

Even with that, ISU had a shot vs. Nebraska until 4th quarter ... then floodgates opened, it went from 7-7 to 31-7.

16 bowls that year, get past OU and don't blow the KSU game, ISU likely receives an invite, instead of KU (another winnable game that fell by the wayside).

I think a major contributing issue with any season where ISU starts out strong and withers down the stretch is depth specifically in the trenches. There was even a bit of depth last year and although November was a tough month, the losses were at least a few plays from being flipped.

I think 3-1 is the most likely as I think we are pretty much neck and neck roster-wise with Iowa, but we return almost the same team and they won’t let Iowa pull off a comeback like they did last year.

Obviously the one loss I picked was Oklahoma as they will be pissed and be looking to murder us as revenge for last season. It wouldn’t surprise me, however, if we ended up beating Oklahoma.

This years team excites me. As you all know, last year if it weren’t for that loss to Iowa, the comeback that Okie State pulled off, and the screw job of three “there are no penalties on the play” flags thrown that completely screwed us over against K-State, we would’ve finished as a top ten team. This ISU team is loaded, has one of the best offenses and defenses in the conference, and we can beat any team on our schedule if we play our hearts out. I really think we finish 8-4 or 9-3 this season. It’s an exciting time to be an ISU fan!

Lot of votes for 3-1. That would be a great start. This ISU team is very capable with what CMC has coming back. Also, if they take care of the ball like last year, they WILL have success yet again this year. Kempt and Montgomery in the backfield makes me feel confident the team can keep our edge in that regard.

Hoping for 4-0 though!

Ready for things to start! BEAT SDSU!

I picked 3-1 when this poll first came out, but just changed it to 4-0 because why the hell not. There is no room for negativity on this hype train before the season even begins. Choooo choooo!!!

If the team can get to 4-0, I hope our Cyclone faithful start travelling in droves to Dallas/Stillwater the weeks following. HUGE games for ISU.

Tough opening set of 4 games. 3+ wins would bode well for the season ahead. 2-2 would suck, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. Still lots of Ws on the schedule after week 4.
