Ricky Stanzi: 56 TDs and 30 INTs
Sam Richardson if he matches last years 18 TDs and 9 INTs: 55 TDs 25 INTs

SR has 4,840 yards, and if he matches last year he will end up with 7,276.

Stanzi finished with 7,377.

And I'd say that odds are pretty damn good that SR has a better season this year than last year.

So would you rather have Stanzi or Beathard?

Thread has been won.

I think you confused my point. I never said that I'd take beathard. I said for Richardson to be ISU's touchdown leader, that says more about ISU than it does about Richardson. Not sure why you gave all of Stanzi's stats, he's nowhere close to the touchdown record at Iowa.

He's 3rd and only 5 TD's out of 2nd. Obviously Long is #1 but he has way more attempts and threw 52 INTs in his career.

I think you're the one that's confused.

Your point inferred that being the all time touchdown leader at ISU wasn't good enough to establish a QB as better than Beathard, which is absurd. Iowa's all time leader is irrelevant, as is everything that Gonzo cited.

The gap between a 55 touchdown career with over 7,000 yards and a guy with 2 or 3 starts says a hell of a lot more than the fact that ISU's leading passer has 50 passing TDs. Maybe if the record was like 20.

SR is statistically similar to Stanzi. So using him as a comparison removes the homer bias and allows you to make a pick without playing favorites.

The fact of the matter is, there is no reasonable argument for Beathard over Stanzi or Richardson.

Yeah, let's ignore the fact that Stanzi had very good defenses on those teams...

No one is ignoring that Stanzi had very good defenses. I agree that judging QB's solely on W-L record is not a very good metric as very good teams can let an average QB have a good record.

But I'd say Stanzi was a superior QB to Sam B Richardson. Stanzi averaged 8.1 yards per attempt in college, Richardson has averaged 6.2 yards per attempt to date. Stanzi's career QB rating was 141.6. Richardson's is 121.1 for his career. Those aren't the be-all, end-all of QB stats but they are ways to compare QB's who played in different offenses and were asked to do different things.

But to this weekend's matchup. Richardson clearly has the longer track record. Beathard is making his 3rd career start. How those 2 play will go a long way to determining who wins.

Curious who here thinks Richardson will be drafted by the 5th round of next years NFL draft.

Stanzi is better than Richardson and Richardson is better than Beathard but that one could change

One guys name is Beathard, the other guy doesn't beat hard teams. So I guess it's a toss up. I haven't seen Beathard throw the ball more than 10 yd downfield, makes me think he has a noodle arm.

It's kind of silly comparing the two. Two entirely different teams and offenses. Sam might have more yds and tds because ISU is usually down and we throw more. It's pretty clear that Beathard will play a mich easier schedule and it's not close. Stick Richardson on that Orange Bowl team and you likely have the same result though. Iowa had like 8 NFL players on that team.

You must live in a tavern hawk free zone. They bring the past up all the time around here, kind of like Uncle Rico.

Not a bigger pet peeve for me during hate week. You can talk that "well we won x number of BCS bowl games more than you have and x number of conference championships more than you have" **** all day, but this year is this year. Iowa fans could use that same argument against Baylor, but see how much it matters when the 4th quarter is over.

No matter your evaluation of Richardson and if his stats or Stanzi's stats could be better, worse, who they played with, ect....... Being on pace for 55 TDs and being a RS Senior compared to a QB with essentially no starting experience transcends those arguments.

I'd say the fact that SR being on pace for 55 TDs and having all those yards and the issue still being a tossup with a guy who's starting his 3rd game on Saturday transcends a few things too.
