I don’t buy the $140 being the reason it isn’t filled

Maybe I was too intoxicated or never looked up but I could swear the student sections was mostly filled. (2007-2011)

Ha, you were far gone my friend. 07 and 08 were my last seasons and the upperdeck was always empty come the 2nd half of the season. When there were people up there, it was a ix of students and those who bought hillside tickets that moved up to the stands.

A big problem with ISU's fanbase is that they are too successful and a LOT of engineers. However, there aren't that many engineering jobs in Iowa and so they spread through out the country. Hard to go back to football games that way.

Not if you're committed for a game or two. I live in CO and will be back this weekend. I flew out to the Akron game earlier this year.

But thats the issue...until we get sustained success, we are not going to sell out these types of games. Its just the way it is. That being said, the fact that we will likely have 55-60K in the stadium this weekend for a team that has won 11 games the previous 4 seasons is phenomenal.

I guess my point then let's acknowledge that it takes UNI and Iowa fans for us to sell out games.

We have a 52,000-55,000 base fanbase that basically shows no matter our performance. For a huge one off game like this weekend, I wish that we could get another 5-7k "fringe" fans for a sellout. I think we'll get close but its taken more effort (media and cheap tickets) to get there.

Has JP said anything about updated ticket sale numbers since 54k?
I would be interested to see this as well.

Also, I work with farmers on a daily basis. There are a select few who never miss an ISU football game, and there are those that will be giving their tickets away or just will not go because of harvest.

That's just the way it is. With the weather this fall, harvest is a bit behind schedule.

The Okie State game is closer to a sell out than the TCU game due to the mini-packs.

I think we will have a very good crowd, especially given our history. I would just love to see the place sold-out, but it doesn't look like we will get there.

I can guarantee, and wager CW running around JTS naked while wearing a beer helmet stocked with Busch Light, that if we collectively yell louder about attendance into a message board, suddenly, magically, we'll have 60k in attendance on Saturday.

I get the "weather is overrated" talk that goes around constantly, but that Texas Tech game from last year will always stick in my mind where those dudes wanted to be anywhere but Ames Iowa that day. Judging by their sideline demeanor, if they could have jumped back on the bus after the first quarter, they would have. Maybe at first the weather is overrated, but it sure seems like once you start losing in a game, suddenly the weather seems to get a lot colder for that losing team, especially for a bunch of Texas boys. Therefore, if anything, I think the weather could help us come Saturday. The key is starting the game off well.

Comparing an undefeated #4 TCU team to a 4 win TTU team is apples to oranges.

This is a tired conversation. Ive only heard it for the last 20 years. It hasn't mattered once. In regards to a coaches or teams overall success.

Now as a fan, who is going. IT SUCKS WHEN ITS EMPTY. Show up and have fun. I cant have fun, and enjoy myself when the stadium is empty and boring. Example: See Texas game. Worst atmosphere ever.

No, I still stand by my comment. Ultimately, all these players have human being tendencies. No, Tech from last year is nothing compared to TCU from this year, but I'd also argue the ISU from last year is nothing like the ISU from this year either. Also, I'm not sure that the disparity in both teams playing in the two different scenarios are that different. TCU is good this year, but so are we.

The more people we get packed into the Jack, the less cold we'll all be.

I honestly have no clue how parents with sports aged kids even make a game. I was able to hit UNI because it was before all the fall leagues started and we had no travel tourneys that weekend. I can't even watch the games live anymore let along drive to Ames. Doesn't make me a bad fan, makes me a good dad/coach.

Nailed it. We went from being season ticket holders before kids and when they were younger, to making a few games a year, to being damn lucky if we'll make one this year. I listened to most of the OU game in my truck while finally getting caught up on errands because I hadn't been home a night all that week before because of meetings and kids activities.

I'd love to be there Saturday, but as someone else mentioned, the State XC meet is going on and my daughter's team qualified so that's where we'll be. I'm not bitter, and I'll enjoy freezing my ass off in Ft. Dodge watching them run. Life changes and so do your priorities. And anyone that scoffs at the notion that harvest doesn't have an effect on attendance doesn't really understand the concept of people's livelihoods having to come ahead of their entertainment.

That said, I hope those with the time and the means make the extra effort to get there and fill in for those of us that can't. This IS a huge deal for our football program and we need to show up. I predict there will be 56-58,000 butts in the seats.

As I said earlier in this thread this is what I don't understand, aside from all the reasons why someone can't come (which are all legitimate by the way) there sure as hell should be enough fans that have nothing going on that should have their ass in the stadium on Saturday.
