The DC hire has really intrigued me......my latest guess is Tommy thigpen.......from tennesee....looks like him and cmc crossed paths at bowling green...thoughts?

Not sure if the link will work....sorry

He would be a good candidate and seems to check the boxes they'd be looking for: young, nationally recognized recruiter, etc. He'd have to make a jump from position coach to coordinator, but I'm imagining that's what we'd be getting.

One hang up could be pay.....he makes 405,000 at Tennessee. .....crazy the pay assistance get in the sec

Well that pretty much kills the idea of him coming to Ames. Manning is the highest paid coordinator at $250k, so there's no way the DC will make 400k. Pretty much all coordinators still going in bowl games will be making well over 200k, even as co-coordinators, or position coaches.

Unless this guy wants the DC title. He's never been a DC and $300-350K in Ames goes a long way. Cut your teeth against the Big 12 and his resume sells itself if he succeeds at ISU. If he flops he could still be a DC at a non-P5 school.

I looked into Marion Hobby who is the co-DC @ Clemson behind Venables and he just got a raise to 415k. I think anybody we hire will be under 250k.

Just curious, what does the back up DC at Iowa make in comparison? Do their assistants get a crap load more than ours since Ferentz does?

Yes, Iowa assistants are paid more. Their DC made 537k last year. Their tight ends coach made 263k

I don't believe there are any coaches on teams left to play with coaching ties to Campbell, Toledo, Mt. Union, or ISU ties.

Would think $400K goes further in Knoxville and $300K goes in Ames?

There might still be some dominos to fall in CFB. If Snyder retires at K-State, if a college coach jumps to the NFL, etc. Could create some ripples that free up a candidate. The deadline is really once signing day passes. Some coaches wait until then to jump to new positions.
