I get why people like TJ, but I also think that a lot of people who think he’s the better choice are letting emotions get involved a bit too much. Prohm is the perfect example of why that shouldn’t happen. We all know Prohm is a great guy, but he flat out can’t coach. I see the TJ connection as something similar, a guy people like who has ties to the program. While TJ would likely be a superior coach compared to Prohm, I want a proven winner, and that is clearly DeVries.
I was with you until the end.

Devries

I feel he's shown what he can do, plays exciting, i actually like the Iowa connection (even though i believe he could recruit a lot of guys based on style of play).

I'd be ok going after Hoiberg...the the contract needs to have a "no flirt" clause, lol.

I feel like TJ is starting to have the "feel" of that girl everyone wanted to date in high school....then 10-15 years later someone in your hometown is dating them now and clearly dating the idea of dating them 15 years ago in high school...but now they are average, their "hottness" and beauty didn't sustain.

I don't get what's so great about Devries. Drake is a great story, but this isn't your father's MVC anymore.

Exactly. He may turn out to be a great coach - but those that say we never should have hired Prohm are oddly onboard with hiring Prohm v2.0. At least Prohm showed he could recruit some and develop PGs before he got here. Unfortunately, he has a pretty sub-par staff and is failing miserably because of it.

I was ok with hiring Prohm, agree his time is up, but don't think DeVries does much more for us in a league where talent is critical and he's shown little ability to recruit at this level.

Plus, the MVC has sucked the last several years. Thus why they are 16-0 and only just now ranked at #25.

So I guess you're #teamTJ then?

Or are you more wanting to go for an ex-P6 guy (e.g., Matta) who is currently out of work?

Why is Thad Motta currently unemployed anyway. Just curious considering his track record at OSU and the fact that he is only 53.

I'm shocked that Devries is winning. He seems like another trip down the Gmac lane.

agree, he’s a good coach, I just worry there is a lot of mid major stuff going on there and I worry about the transition for devries

different kind of athlete, different kind of league and different kind of style...we had two mid major coaches that didn’t adjust...Prohm and gmac

that would be my concern with devries, you aren’t going to out hustle Baylor, Kansas, wv, tech, ou and Texas every night...gotta have a different level of horses

Ive shared my various thoughts and reasons in the premium forum thread today. There are basically 2 options of direction for a search and unfortunately I think JP will only go down the budget path. I started this site 16 years ago to press for a change and have watched each subsequent search from both the inside and outside. Unfortunately, while the variables of what we can do have multiplied several times over, what we’re willing to do doesn’t seem to have moved from the 90s.

He grossly underperformed based on the recruits he brought in year after year (he was to basketball what Mack Brown at TX was to football), has some questions around ethics and morals, and has some health issues.

I would offer to Kelvin Sampson, Worst case scenario he says no. Best case he says no and we offered to an African American if we hire a coach who is white. I mean I would love Sampson. He is getting old but he could get us back on track for 4 years and then retire.
My only issue with him would be the rampant cheating. Hell of a coach admittedly.

Matta won 5 conference championships at Ohio State. He didn't grossly underperform.

I do agree that the longer he remains out of coaching, the more questions there are regarding his ability to be successful at a program like ISU's. If he ever does get back into coaching, my guess is that it will be a Florida program (where he has a residence) like Miami FL. I highly doubt he would have interest in ISU.

Yeah, It's like what level of cheating is he doing. I mean is he Auburn and KU cheating? No. He is making a few extra phone calls cheating. I can deal with that.

I’m assuming the people who don’t want him, also didn’t like that we kept Fred and were glad to see us hire Prohm.
