I like to imagine Gunner is JP's alter ego. Makes everything he does even more bizzare and entertaining.
If only Ivan Chiriaev had come to Ames....Also had Rahshon. Turned out to be the only (eventual) impact player who stayed more than 1 more year, I think.
Wayne’s team lost some close ones early in the conference but the end of the season was a bit brutal. Lost to a 7-9 Nebraska at home by double digits, loss to 4-12 Baylor by 22 on the road and finished the year losing 7 of the last 9. No post season for a squad that started the season in the Top 25. I was also in Dallas for that Big 12 tournament and it seemed very clear that the team was ready to be done with the season. Stark contrast to Wayne’s first year. 2006 was also a bad year of basketball for the Big 12. 7 of the 12 teams had losing records in the conference and only 4 teams went to the NCAA tournament.
But you are missing the point. Wayne got the job with his resume. He was fired for the on/off court issues after three years. If Wayne’s resume was good enough for you back in 2004 then why would you have an issue with T.J. or the resume of any another competent mid-major?

I also remember losing to Texas A & M on a late 3-point shot and losing a game at Oklahoma that we really should have won.
I know they haven't. I think there is a consensus that hiring TJ means the return of Hoiball. I've watched a couple games now and the style is more like a combination of Wisconsin on the offensive end with less discipline and Hoiball style defense.
I’ve watched the better part of 4 of T.J’s games this year. Their game against Alabama, both Utah State games and their second game against Nevada. I also watched 3-4 of their games last year. The personnel was better last year.So the TJ crowd seems to be jumping on this disliking. I again have two specific questions for them...
1) How many quarters of a UNLV coached TJ team have you watched?
2) What did you see on the court that you liked that you think would make him a good coach at Iowa State? (note by on court I'm excluding recruiting - I agree TJ is an amazing recruiter)
I should state I want TJ to be the guy. We could get him and I think he would stay in Ames a long time. I want TJ to be the guy and as a result I went out and watch a bunch of UNLV basketball and I did so wanting to see the guy for Iowa State. I didn't though, but I'd love to have a conversation about what I missed. I'm very pro that concept of TJ, but he's got to have the coaching that fits the concept.
(and I'd love to see this thread be more of a basketball discussion of TJ and Devries, I haven't watched as much Drake but I'm starting, and what they would bring as a basketball mind to the program vs a discussion of Wayne Morgan who no matter what people think of him will not be our next coach)
I was pretty young when this happened, although I remember him and the team.. What happened exactly?

Rebuild? TJ just got swept by Alford, losing one by 30 and the other being outscored 19-4 at the end of the game.Did you miss that TJ is about 18 months on the job and inherited a mess and is in the process of cleaning house and rebuilding? You ***** act like he’s in Year 5.

They were better under Marvin Menzies.
Yeah, that was a really disappointing team and season. I also remember losing to Texas A & M on a late 3-point shot and losing a game at Oklahoma that we really should have won. Had we actually won it we could have put ourselves right on the "bubble" for that point in the season.
S*** I almost forgot about that one. A fine squandering of a win.

Hoiberg is not coming back. Otz, Smith, and DeVries are unproven at this level. If we are to change, we need a better option. Haven’t seen that yet. A bird in hand . . .
That is out of the box thinking. I like it.It was posted in one of the other threads, Becky Hammon. Assistant coach for the S.A. Spurs, if she is smart enough to work for Popavich , I'm pretty sure she can coach at ISU. She's only making $200,000 offer her a million bucks or so and see what happens. I'm more of a Devries fan then TJ, but lets be real I don't have any say who the next coach will be.
Hell maybe Prohm and Co. can go on a run and he comes back next yr.
T.J. finished 12-6 in the MWC and T2 in his first year at UNLV. That was the best conference finish they have had since 2008 under Lon Kruger.Rebuild? TJ just got swept by Alford, losing one by 30 and the other being outscored 19-2 at the end of the game.

And Menzie went 11-7 in the conference the year before and he was fired. Some "mess" TJ "inherited," as the poster claimed.T.J. finished 12-6 in the MWC and T2 in his first year at UNLV. That was the best conference finish they have had since 2008 under Lon Kruger.
3 of the starters from Menzies never played for T.J. I would imagine at the end of the year UNLV finishes 9-7 in the conference. Is that going to change your opinion? And Menzie went 11-7 in the conference the year before and he was fired. Some "mess" TJ "inherited," as the poster claimed.
To update, TJ is 3-5 in the conference this year, 6-9 overall, with more of his own players...
