I saw this question posed in another thread and thought it was interesting. If you could have one thing happen this weekend, which would you choose? Chiek Diallo commits or football team beats Baylor.

I voted Baylor because Diallo can always commit at a later date

Diallo without a doubt. Beating Oklahoma State was supposed to be a "program changing" win a few years ago. Beating Baylor won't do anything now.

Iowa State basketball is on the verge of greatness. On the other hand, football is wildly treading water and struggling to keeps its nose above water. Diallo, easily.

If you would have asked about making a bowl game or getting him, I would go with the bowl game. But getting a Top 10 player can impact a program more than winning a game. He can take us from good to great. Beating Baylor doesn't change who we are.

If you thought that OSU was a program changing win to begin with, you probably care more about "programs" rather than wins, and are picking Diallo. I could eat crow on this one, but I don't think Diallo is a program changing player.

How did you feel about RV? Because Diallo would be bigger.

Exactly. I don't think one player is going to change much about the program. Many schools have gotten top players but haven't been the greatest teams. I believe that in the future any team that Fred assembles will be able to compete for a national title. I'll take the Baylor win for the chance that the football program could hopefully get back on the right track.

Beating Baylor flips the ****** on the season. If I told you before the season we would be 2-2 after four games, you would have taken it and probably happily. If we get Diallo, well, then the basketball team will be good. Fred is going to win no matter what. Bastekball recruiting simply doesn't matter to me.

I voted Baylor. But I feel like this is a very good discussion to have. I think most on here are saying Diallo because the bball team is reaching new heights and he could be the recruit to put us over the top. I feel that he isn't even the most important piece of the '15 season...it would be Niang opting to return for his senior season.
I believe that people are saying Diallo and pointing to the OSU game in '11 and saying "it wasn't a program changing win". Right. Because there is no such thing as a program changing win. Look at KU, they won a BCS game like 7 years ago and have been absolute garbage for 4-5 years now. 1 win won't change your program but it could change the season. 2-2 at this point in the year has me much more optimistic than 1-3.
I voted Baylor because it is a guaranteed win against a top 10 team at home on national TV. The basketball team will more than likely win many games with or without Diallo.

My pick is Diallo without question. I honestly don't see a win this week in football changing the course of anything. We still would need to find 4 more wins on the schedule to even become bowl eligible which may not even happen. It would only be an early season upset. It's not like this team is good but just underachieving, we don't have a good team this season. Getting Diallo would set us up for a huge basketball season, possibly a Big 12 championship, and a potential deep tourney run. Not hard at all to pick between a guy that could bring basketball to the top of the heap over 1 game that guarantees nothing.

Just like the expression, the first million dollars is the hardest to make. Same thing for top 10 recruits. Once Hoiberg get his first 5*(out of HS) hopefully it's open season.

Diallo. I'd rather have Diallo and lose the rest of the football games this year. We're not going bowling, so the season is already over.

Getting one guy doesn't guarantee as much either.

Getting 1 win against Baylor doesn't guarantee anything. The idea that it could be a program changer is laughable. Will be viewed by the rest of the nation as a complete fluke if we were to beat Baylor.
