I saw this question posed in another thread and thought it was interesting. If you could have one thing happen this weekend, which would you choose? Chiek Diallo commits or football team beats Baylor.
Diallo without a doubt. Beating Oklahoma State was supposed to be a "program changing" win a few years ago. Beating Baylor won't do anything now.
Iowa State basketball is on the verge of greatness. On the other hand, football is wildly treading water and struggling to keeps its nose above water. Diallo, easily.
If you thought that OSU was a program changing win to begin with, you probably care more about "programs" rather than wins, and are picking Diallo. I could eat crow on this one, but I don't think Diallo is a program changing player.
Exactly. I don't think one player is going to change much about the program. Many schools have gotten top players but haven't been the greatest teams. I believe that in the future any team that Fred assembles will be able to compete for a national title. I'll take the Baylor win for the chance that the football program could hopefully get back on the right track. If you thought that OSU was a program changing win to begin with, you probably care more about "programs" rather than wins, and are picking Diallo. How did you feel about RV? Because Diallo would be bigger.
Getting one guy doesn't guarantee as much either. My pick is Diallo without question. I honestly don't see a win this week in football changing the course of anything. We still would need to find 4 more wins on the schedule to even become bowl eligible which may not even happen. It would only be an early season upset. It's not like this team is good but just underachieving, we don't have a good team this season. Getting Diallo would set us up for a huge basketball season, possibly a Big 12 championship, and a potential deep tourney run. Not hard at all to pick between a guy that could bring basketball to the top of the heap over 1 game that guarantees nothing.
